Small background: I'm Korean and I've been looking around videos online about Korea and the Philippines because many of my friends are Filipino and I want to understand and invest myself into the culture.
Something I've noticed and that's been bugging me from many Filipinos is that they seem to indulge themselves of pride in their victorious battle during the Korean War where they managed to fend off a horde of Chinese PLA soldiers at Yultong.

I understand Filipinos wanting to express their national pride and wanting to have the strength of their soldiers be acknowledged by the international community; but they don't seem to realize that at the end of the day, their efforts just assisted America in installing a puppet dictator that murdered hundreds of thousands of our own people and solidifying their imperialism.
As a Korean, I can't help but feel disappointed when Filipinos claim they fought for the "freedom and democracy" of Korea. The freedom and democracy (the Korea Filipinos see today) was fought for and achieved by Koreans spilling Korean blood against American backed dictators for decades.
What annoys me more is that many Filipinos use this incident as a rebuttal for the colorist actions of Koreans. Colorism is fucked up and I am VEHEMENTLY against it, it's unfortunate how Koreans view and treat Asians of darker color. However, when I see comments that claim how Koreans should instead worship Filipinos because they brought freedom and democracy to us, I can't help but feel this is not the most healthy way to express their dissent. Although there are scumbag Koreans in the Philippines, as a nation, we've been showing immense gratitude to the Philippines by helping out during humanitarian disasters and honoring the veterans, etc. I believe it's more than America or Japan has done for them recently and yet we're still the punching bag.
This sort of mentality reminds me of fellow Koreans that are proud of killing Vietnamese people during the Vietnam war, dehumanizing fellow Asians by boasting about the "KD ratio" and thanking Uncle Sam on the side.
Sorry for the incoherent rant, I'm super tired atm. What are your guys' thoughts on this?
