Hi,
I left my social media accounts a few years ago. Then I started a reddit and a twitter maybe 9 months ago, just deactivated the reddit and haven't looked at the twitter in months. I couldn't just migrate here without deactivating.
As I start here, I see some of the same stupid divisions I see there. I suspect most people here are here because we've felt rejected by the forces that dominate social media. They are not "the left", though they obviously call themselves that. They are not many of the things they call themselves. They are a toxic mimic, at best. (If toxic mimic is new to you, then please look it up. It's worth the effort.)
Let's not be divided in the way they divided us. Before we might be left or right, men or women, artists or engineers, we are people. We are all here looking for community in one way or another. I hope this is or becomes a place where we can start from points of agreement, and if that means abandoning the way issues or ideas have been framed by others, then all the better.
Sorry for sounding preachy. I"m pissed about reddit and all the social engineering done by software engineers. They pretend to be working on being on the "right" side of history, but they forget that the ends never justify the means and that is the least of the "sins" going on here. There has only ever been one solution to "problematic" speech: more free speech. Anything else is authoritarianism. Yes officer, I'm stepping away from the soap-box now. Don't taze me bro.
