Oof, that's a tough one. Depends what you like. And perhaps you are already familiar with the classics. But in any case let me suggest my favourites: Books: 1. Fingersmith, The Paying Guests, both by Sarah Waters (in fairness all her stuff is pretty entertaining) 2. One Day You'll Leave Me by Debra Flores (it's like Somewhere in time (the movie) but with lesbians) - this one was so engrossing, I couldn't put it down. 3. Full English by Rachel Spangler - downright silly and the writing made me laugh out loud several times, but it's uplifting. 4. Fried Green Tomatoes - good as a book especially if you skip the straight storyline.

Movies: 1. Fried Green Tomatoes - better than the book and fantastic as a movie. I can't blame it for my troubles, but I do :) talk about unrealistic expectations after seeing Ruth and Idgie so happy. 2. Fingersmith (the TV adaptation) - great acting, great storyline. 3. Imagine Me and You - fun, woman falls for lesbian, leaves boyfriend, but great leads. 4. Kiss Me - basically a Swedish version of Imagine Me and You. 5. The World Unseen - set in Apartheid Africa, sweet film about a difficult subject, a touch of Bollywood techniques in editing. 6. I Can't Think Straight - silly with a good deal of dyke drama, but overall quite endearing. 7. The Battle of the Sexes - about Billy Jean King and gosh, everything about this film is great. 8. Desert Hearts - if I remember well it takes place on a ranch and the conflict centers around one of the leads struggling with her attraction towards a woman. 9. Portrait of a Lady on Fire - French film, great cinematography, overall very smart (one could teach film and philosophy classes based solely on this movie) and the story is really more of a manifesto on feminism. If you like your love stories a bit more intelectualized, than this is a winner. 10. Carol - the film is beautiful, but at times it feels that so much attention is given to the set building and the cinematography that the characters never seemed to quite come alive to me - I do understand I am in a minority on this, as the film is widely lauded.

PS. Apologies for the editing, still getting the hang of this platform.

I’ll give the books a go, I loved Fried Green Tomato’s. Plus anything is more entertaining then watching a wheat field grow so I can get into almost anything. Thank you for the suggestions!

Shows-Gentleman Jack, is the only one that stands out. Don't watch a lot of TV...same movies, but in another sub on this site and user recommended a movie called Rafiki, Thelma, and the new Nollywood movie coming out.

Books!!!!

The House You Pass on the Way-Jaquline Woodson

Ash -Melinda Lo

Folly-do not know author

Beyond the Pale-do not know author

Annie on My Mind-do not know author

The Well of Loneliness-Radclife Hall

Portrait of a Marriage-son of Vita Sackville West

The Price of Salt-Patricia Highsmith

Highsmith-Marijane Meaker (ex-girlfriend of Patricia and depending on how passionate you are about racial issues, you might not longer be fond of Patricia. I mentioned in another comment that the lesbian community likes to bury bad behavior from fellow lesbians. This book is a good example of that)

The Teahouse Fire-Ellis Amery

Last Words from Montemarte-Qiu Miaojin

If You Could be Mine-Sara Faraz

Earth Logic-Laurie J. Marks (I honestly believe Avatar: The Last Airbender was heavily influenced by this book series)

All of these books are about women loving women regardless whether or not they're homosexual or bisexual. Some of them deal with racial or ethnic issues such as The House You Pass on the Way and Beyond the Pale. Some deal have women of color as leads like Ash, Teahouse of Fire. Some deal with suicide such as Last Words of Montemarte. There are many more but I'll stop here. Enjoy!

I don't have many recommendations but 1) Rafiki is a brilliant film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgSeBDHqv_I and 2) if you like drag then season three of Dragula has a lesbian drag king contestant.

Bleeding Earth by Kaitlin Ward. It's a young adult horror fiction about the Earth suddenly flooding with blood and is told from a young lesbian's POV. It's actually got this amazing description of the coming out experience and the struggles a high school aged lesbian deals with while not detracting from the main drama of the book. I read it and the whole time I wished that when i was the age of the protagonist i had this book.

I know this is kind of an obvious answer, but i really loved But I'm a Cheerleader. I liked Carol as well, and I've heard great things about Blue is the Warmest Color.

Book recs! Most my books are in storage atm and seriously blanking so I’ll just throw out my three most recent reads:

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon- some feminist themes in a fantasy setting with dragons and politics, it’s not perfect but most everyone I know into lesbian fiction, not that it is strictly classified as such, has read and gushed over it at some point since it came out(also, this thing is over 800 pages, a good time suck)

Compass Rose By Anna Burke- dystopian future, high seas, pirates, politics and lesbians

Under a Falling Star by Jae- an easy, fun read about a modern office romance, fluff and drama included, with a “falling for someone you shouldn’t” trope, among others but that’s what makes it a fun read

If you're into Spanish soap operas I can pm you a link to scenes from Amar es Para Siempre of a lesbian couple on there, Amelia and Luisita. Its a soap opera so there's some great parts and some not so great parts but overall I think its good. They've also got a short web spin off too called Luimelia.
