I agree with the quote. That's why I don't like the buddhist "masters" who meditate to death to show how pious and dedicated they are. This itself is a form of egoism.

Learning means nothing unless it's shared. If you understand the universe and never told anyone, then that wisdom dies when your body dies. However if you tell people and help them, the lessons can echo on for thousands of years. Like Jesus and like the Buddha. Which is a lot more helpful to humanity as a whole than just stockpiling wisdom to oneself.

So you disagree with/dislike the Allegory of the Cave? I think it's a valuable read, Plato (the individual) is long gone.

The Mystery Schools were not bad in and of themselves. It is the misuse of them that became the psychopathic skullduggery we see today.
