I had about 30 comments in that thread, some upvoted, some downvoted. But they were all relevant to the discussion at hand. I was making real points, voicing my opinion on a controversial issue. Not everyone would agree, that's okay. But it's what I felt was true.
I was then banned by the mods. Then, curiously, unbanned because a mod decided I had been provoked in to acting that way (which I had, and should not have responded to). I replied and said I would be more careful. Then they banned me again, 5 mins later, upon further review the mods had decided I was "not acting in good faith".
I edited all my comments to alert people in the thread to the fact I was banned for what I said. Then they deleted all my comments from the thread and removed the ability to receive any replies. I would get the orangered envelope, but then when I click it it would say "nothing here".
So they erased everything I said, intercepted all replies to me so I wouldn't get them, and banned me from the sub. I kept pressing the mods to give me a reason, and eventually they said this:
It’s mostly due to the fact that you had never posted in /r/boardgames before today, and your first actions here were to become confrontational and post dozens of comments with questionable levels of civility. If you were already an active poster here, we probably would have come to a different conclusion, but if the extent of your interest in the subreddit is only this thread, we decided a ban is appropriate.
So basically because I had what they deem as a controversial opinion, and I hadn't posted on boardgames a ton before (I had actually posted there maybe a half-dozen times) this means I'm banned.
This is censorship. I asked them to pick a specific example of something they thought was ban-worthy, but they wouldn't.
People may say "oh that's just one sub" but this was on the front page today. Everyone's front page, not just people who care about /r/boardgames. And I'm being told that because I have a controversial opinion, despite the fact I'm communicating it as clearly as possible, I am banned.
Looking at the 'best' in the thread, it's no wonder they're all so gleefully agreeing with OP. Anyone with anything else to say has been banned and had the evidence erased of their existence. Down the memory hole...
And this is just /r/boardgames. Imagine what's happening behind the scenes on the subs people actually care about.
Reddit is a carefully curated "reality". Never forget that.
