Far far FAr FAR FAR too little, too late. The site is pure ideological extreme left trash at this point, openly allowing harassment, doxing, and worse to anyone deemed to the right of anyone on the far left, and are allowed to be labeled alt-right and a "literal nazi." Any company that is ok with this, on either side, can get fucked. No one has to agree, no one has to hold their tonuges.... but allowing anything beyond that is not tolerable. When your site has caused the DEATHS of MULTIPLE people, including 2 people that were INNOCENT or not even the right person, it is time to take a SERIOUS look at what you are doing, or perhaps the site should be forcefully shutdown. Any site that is so fucked that it allows it's people cart blanche to go as far as causing the deaths of people, cannot be labeled anything other than a HATE site promoting violence.

Even if you go to places like r/RedditAlterantives, or the shitty recent alternatives like Lemmy, they're all "no tranphobes and no bigot drumf supporters." They had no problem with abusing the "anti-vaxers" or "drumf voters" but do have a problem with mobile-app changes.

The way I see it, anyone who had a problem with Reddit's actions in 2020 already left. Where they went to, I don't know, aside from the Patriots.win folks.

RedditAlterantives, which you'd think is a dissident area, is only concerned about nonsense like "federation" and "no hate speech" and "no disinformation." They don't care about free speech or having a good platform. I have popped back in there from time to time, but each time I leave feeling dirty. Reddit these days is just so toxic, weird, and political.

I honestly have ONLY stuck around on Reddit, before I was banned for literally just defending myself against harassments and PM threats, because it had the most traffic and posts going through it. The damn chats and people there are nearly unforgivably ignorant, echo chambered, and flat out hate groups. As a more centrist left leaning, I CONSTANTLY was calling out both sides on reddit, and getting SLAUGHTERED because of it, what a fucking joke of a site, and I was there 13 years.

I'm reminded of a situation I was in. Some guy approached me and offered to help me with a project I've been working on for years. Not big help, just some basic sketches. A little free help can't hurt I guess? Nope. Before I knew it, in a matter of days, he was acting like an unpaid employee, an equal, or even manager, demanding to talk on phone or voice-chat endlessly it was getting weird. Effectively trying to effectively take over the project.

I was getting ready to tell him to back off, when he sent me this giant angry tirade about how I was a terrible unprofessional person who was impossible to work with etc. Thankfully, he did my job for me in ending it.

Sometimes, the best thing that happens to you, is when someone else ends a relationship or interaction, that you should have ended a while ago.

They did it too late and for the wrong reasons, but I'm still glad that the powermods finally got their comeuppance. Now the admins and the rest of the website needs to go get fucked as well.

Moderation should always be transparent. There should always be some sort of chain of custody of evidence. Government censorship always has a paper trail. Corporate censorship is automated. The ability to completely erase any trace of wrongthink would probably give even Goebbels pause.

Locking a comment tree should always be an option, but actually deleting someone's words should only ever happen if there is some harm that arises, as from a malicious link. Defining harm as the emotional response to not agreeing with something is buffoonery.

I had my reddit account combed through manually by admin, who made very petty removals of non-rule-breaking, or even controversial comments, before I finally turned my back on that on that abusive place. It seems like admin manipulation maybe for more common that one would assume or consider ethical.
