It's not really just shenanigans though. Gabara is notoriously destructive and has an army of sock accounts. So does nadeshda and whatever other spergs actually exist. I'm almost certain it's just 4 or 5 people with 30 accounts each.

Gabara used to just flood the front page with "NIGGER" posts in the middle of the night and upvote with alts until they had enough karma to do things.

Afterward, they'd just use the socks to stifle discussion and throttle legitimate users.

There's trolling and then there's antisocial destructive behavior. SBBH is just shit and it's filled to the brim with shit people. I'm honestly fucking shocked it took them this long to do something about it.

Gabara is massively autistic, and you're correct about the army of sock puppets. Just saw a ton of them on discord yesterday. Quoted a couple in a different comment.

SBBH = soapboxbanhammer. There was/is also a soapdoxbanhammer. SBBH and SDBH. As far as I can tell, strong amounts of autism are present in the core group.

They're prolific meme makers, and can be pretty destructive trolls when the mood strikes.

I always wave my freak flag high, but it was nice going to Burning Man because it made me feel "normal" (because there were maaany people waaay more extreme than I ever could be).

Used to be like that here, until the '89 quake. You might see 5 or 6 14 foot tall brightly colored clowns on stilts, wandering around the downtown area. The bubble guy often spent time downtown making his huge (4' x 20') bubbles, and or filling them with smoke. Many unusual characters walking around like you'd see in some kind of movie.

All the 70s hippies were still here, and it was like a mini burning man everyday.

It was actually just last year that the last hole where a building used to be was replaced by a new building.

What's the main difference between voat and poal? As an outsider, it all looks the same to me.

When old voat shut down, most went to poal, or at least had an account there. New voat sprang into existence a couple months later, but was in rough shape, in contrast to years old poal, which had a pretty functional UI.

But as time went by, AOU (one of the poal owners and admin) became more and more of a petty tyrant, banning people she/he disliked, and disabling peoples accounts on a whim.

Consequently, many have moved to new voat (and saidit) to escape the tyranny and stupidity. Same general anti-societal degradation demographic, with those remaining on poal perhaps being more subservient and clueless.

Ah, thanks. I visit both sites to get any news that is ignored from the MSM, even though I have to sift through some of stuff I don't align with. I see a lot in-fighting on both sites, too. I'm sure there's more shilling there than here, although I don't think any political or current events discussion forum is safe.
