New York is really common, but Minneapolis has been known for it as well. I think there's a huge urban-rural divide happening here that no one is talking about. When's the last time you heard of police brutality in Podunk, Arkansas?
Sheriffs in rural areas are elected by the people, and in many towns everyone knows the sheriff and members of the police. Police chiefs in cities are APPOINTED by whoever is in charge at the time. It's impossible for them to know all their constituents, and you get the feeling many city cops are in it for the paycheck or even just a feeling of power. That's not to mention that city police are often militarized while rural police aren't.
Anyone else noticing this trend and divide between rural and urban police?
