This site needs a serious design overhaul

I’m just saying, and I’m obviously not suggesting that it does any of that “new reddit” bullshit, but this site could really do with a designers touch. I’m just comparing this to Ruqqus and Voat right now but they really look like visually appealing places. This site has been up for a couple years and looks... really really bad. The images in the top banner and the logo itself could all really do with an overhaul

nope, just back to the codebase for other sites to use if they so choose. having mixed voting here would be a major tech burden.

If a downvote is added, can it be seperate? Like I don't want it to subtract from the upvotes. Just a seperate counter to see how many disagree.

Also, is saidit open-source?

yep it's open source. i doubt we'll ever add it, but yeah it could be added like that.

I'm all for no downvotes btw. The problem with them is they can be used to bury unpleasant facts.

I was thinking that maybe they can only be used attached to a reply disproving said fact. That would give downvotes more weight and would be less prevalent. But then again, that would complicate things, especially since the downvote could be attached to a reply simply stating: "no".

So no downvotes lol.

No downvotes and saidit should also get rid of the stupid funny upvote. Just upvoting things is a good way to organize social media in my opinion. If you want to 'downvote' someone you just with hold your upvote and the persons comment or thread won't float up as high.

I prefer function over form.

I'm using the Android app, and it's not that bad. Darkmode out the box and pretty quick. What else do you want?

It'd be nice if we could view images on a larger size. Unless there's a setting I'm missing all the images right now are tiny thumbnails on the left side with the title in the middle. Would be more viewer friendly if the image posts has the image in the middle with the title under or over it.

    As a content creator who uses Patreon, I can confirm: Patreon now takes a stupidly huge chunk of the donations. Then local taxes. Then Paypal transfer fees. Ugh.

    Ruqqus looks like absolute trash, what are you on? I like the site, but it's so freaking cluttered, with so much useless deadspace.

    Saidit's clean interface is so much better.

    I will add to this - the top banner is about twice as large as it needs to be, taking up too much screen real estate. The overall design? I quite like it, because it's mostly a clone of old Reddit.

    I actually like the top banner, I'm surprised you don't. But I agree that there are some small things that need work. The submit link/submit post buttons are pretty bad, and the rounded corners everywhere should be a little tighter.

    Hm, I like it. It looks just like Reddit's old mode, which was what I used anyway.

    Anything that's had a "designer's touch" almost inevitably ends up with white space and way less information density.

    I think the saidit speech bubble thing that appears on every post is really distracting and unnecessary, but otherwise it just looks like old.reddit.com (what reddit was before their various stupid redesign pushes). The little vote icons could be made smaller or less obnoxious, the smiley one in particular.

    I quite like the website tbh. The app is nice too. Just wish images were bigger and there was a reply button under the text of the post.
