Our server guy stumbled across a DNS list that had saidit.net blacklisted... so that was interesting. It also had many parts of reddit blocked as well, so it was quite a broad list, but we're definitely beginning to hit a few people's ban lists

Could you show any list?

I don't have it

Curious.

You should ask him again.

I don't want it, and don't really care. It's not curious that he didn't give me an unimportant DNS list he found somewhere, what am I supposed to do with it? lol

Reddit isn't either, although it was for a period. This is good.

Neither is Infogalactic, probably because it is so small.

These might be blocked eventually, but for now, it is nice to know that people in China can be with us.

If you are in China and would like a VPN, I am making a VPN (although the site is not currently functional as of writing) and will soon be able to give you service for either cryptocurrency (preferably quantum resistant) or just do in the style of a gift economy if you don't have any crypto.

I am looking at blocks in China again because of the context of this comment.

Computer-Pig QRL VPN? Can you find a better name? (Maybe do a SaidItSurvey?)

Is making a VPN difficult? How do you know it's quantum resistant?

More details?

What does it take to set up a VPN?

Have you any interest in setting one up in Canada?

Is it just a service or do you you host content too?

I have lots of drives full of stuff I want to share but I don't currently have boxes or the bandwidth but will have fiber in less than a year.

Making a survey might be a good idea.

Making a VPN, to my knowledge, is relatively easy if you are good at installing servers, but one thing that will be a challenge for me will be implementing the log-in, and even more of a challenge, automatic payment, as QRL is a very unique payment system.

The payment system, QRL, is what is currently quantum resistant; making the actual VPN encryption quantum resistant will require custom software for both the server and the client. Currently, the libraries to do this are recommended to only use in testing rather than production, which is why my SSH is still not resistant despite the availability of software for it. Perhaps it might make sense to use the unproven encryption anyway though; even if it is vulnerable, it could always be wrapped in another layer of encryption.

This is a project to both help the QRL ecosystem, and to find another use for my VPS which isn't currently profitable running such a small amount of services since my mining pool fees (from https://minilaro.computer-pig.net) are way too low.

Setting up this VPN will require installing OpenVPN, editing config files, and in this specific case, probably a custom authentification script which uses users and password hashes stored in a MySQL database.

I am interested in setting up a VPN anywhere where people would like to use one.

This is a service, but I would be glad to host content too, and, in fact, may be able to host it even before the VPN is working depending on requirements, as I already have a working system for hosting content. My VPS has high but capped bandwidth and limited space, while my main server has slow bandwidth but loads of space for both files and even more drives than I already have. I can also set up additional systems if those are not enough, or, if you want to do it yourself, the VPS I am using for this VPN, CrownCloud, has extremely good rates.

QuaRezLedger VPN (the Quantum Resistant Ledger Virtual Private Network)

What if you just create the VPN server relatively easily, with only one restriction - the white list of IPs that may access it?

This cleaves the server from these other issues, tied by the list.

That white list could be distributed for other potential servers and the users for a decentralized VPN service.

That white list, perhaps on a blockchain like Namecoin that might also be your currency. That currency could then be distributed to the other server owners, and converted to whatever they see fit.

I'm guessing the rest of the encryption stuff you mention (Greek to me) would be on the server side.

Do you know much about IPFS, Holochain, ZeroNet, etc.? I started /s/DecentralizeAllThings for such stuff. I'd love it if you posted stuff there even if I don't get it at first. Some things take a while to fully get.

I'd like to join your mining pool if I may. Please write and article and post it if you haven't. Further, I could post something on InfoGalactic if you like.

I am a fan of alternatives to "their" systems and sustainability. Gear costs money and earning its keep, maintenance, and upgrades is sustainable. More is bonus, profit, or savings for a future leap. I'm not after chasing the markets and all that crap, but I do like the idea of fully utilizing my gear and opportunities. Also, I don't have great new gear, so I don't know if that is a big deal. I like the ideas of Filecoin tied with IPFS and Holochain (not a currency, but could utilize some).

Decent QuaRezLedger VPN (the Decentralized Quantum Resistant Ledger Virtual Private Network)

or Decent QRL VPN

I'm not sure but I think you sound like you might like this decentralization idea.

If you were to actually embrace this decentralization idea a critical part of it's potential success would be to make an idiot-proof easy installation manual, FAQ, and trouble shooting guide for noobs and dummies like me.

I'd be happy to help develop it with you. Perhaps on an InfoGalactic wiki-page or few.

Full disclosure. I'm stable but broke as fuck. Every month is a stretch and the last week is usually nothing but cheap empty carbs. I desperately need a new hard drive, will likely get it tomorrow, so this month will be worse, like every other month. I was going to mess around with SaidIt and InfoGalactic a little more hoping to keep it to an absolute minimum by the end of Feb so I can really focus on my animation projects which will not bring in money for a looong time, perhaps years. It's a harder life but I'm happier with this than I was making 6 figures in NYC.
