I believe I'm not the only one that tends to use the friends feature as a sort of "trusted users" feature.
Today I came across a post on /s/Saidit (here) that shared a list of spammers.
I think this is fundamentally flawed. People have different definitions of what a spammer is. We also should use blocking as a last resort in a effort to keep seeing content from people that are keeping the website alive and you might block one of those by accident.
Also doesn't a list like this feel a little dystopic? Like someone makes a list of people that get shawned from a society. Hits back to distopic times.
Like I said, I friend certain people and these people are my trusted users. More and more posts I see more and more red names because they actively engage in discussion. You will save yourself so much trouble by not having to remember names that you know aren't edward alts. Most posts will have only a few blue names and those are the ones I normally go and check if they're a spammer if they sound a little off the edge, and if so I block them. With giving the benefit of the doubt of course. Remember, new users are joining this website all the time so make a effort not to block new people unless you know with certainty they're acting in (spamming or alt) bad faith (not diverging opinion).
So if you want to share lists around, share a trusted user list instead.
PS: I'm not actually sharing my trusted users. I'm just saying, if you are gonna share a list of users, share a trusted user list instead. I'm not willing to share mine :)
Best regards.
