Saidit.net — April 10, 2019 — Saidit hits 6,000 subscribed users, chatbox css theme now matches day/night mode of site, closed out other github issues

Today's announcements for saidit.net:

We just hit 6,000 subscribed users! https://saidit.net/subs/

We hit 5,000 just 18 days ago, so this is a fast pace of growth.

Furthermore our alexa rank is going nuts over the last few weeks: https://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/saidit.net

Saidit is now more highly-ranked than even tildes, which is a reddit-spin-off made by an actual former reddit admin. This is a pretty big deal!

We're happy to announce also a new feature, coded and submitted to github by saidit user /u/wizzwizz4! It makes the IRC chat box change colors when the site color theme is changed, when you click the black and white diagonally-split box in the top-right. It works so smoothly! Thanks wizzwizz4! We appreciate the contributions, it's exciting to see people other than d3rr and myself coding for saidit.

Also we closed out this github issue about a broken page on saidit: https://github.com/libertysoft3/saidit/issues/10

Also we got our main development server updated and running again, so saidit coders can test out their code in a live simulated environment before it's put live on the main server.

Are there any statistic on how insightful/fun votes are being used on this site? Personally, I've noticed that even on meme or funny subs things tend to be voted insightful instead of funny. I assume this is because the positioning mimics reddit's up/downvote system.

I would say they're used pretty frequently in the correct way. Have a look here: https://saidit.net/fun/ and you'll see that people vote funny things as funny.

Also remember you can vote something as both funny and insightful at the same time.

sometimes i catch myself using it like how it is a downvote or upvote on reddit but I don't mean to do that on purpose, like I will then hit the funny button again to reset it

I suppose so. Realistically it's no stranger sounding than say an upvote, downvote, reblog, retweet, .etc.

Since the rebranding, they're now "interesting" and "fun". So you can say "have a funvote" – slightly better.

Is this development server public? If so, how can I push stuff to it?

I think said dev server is more trouble than it's worth and that everyone should be using VMs. With that being said, if magnora7 gives you access I think you could switch the GitHub repo to your own to test new changes, and then switch back when you are done.

Edit: or we setup a 'staging' branch that's automatically updated and you pull request against that.
