Sydney Jay Mead (July 18, 1933 – December 30, 2019) was an American industrial designer and neofuturistic concept artist, widely known for his designs for science-fiction films such as Blade Runner, Alien and Tron. Mead has been described as "the artist who illustrates the future" and "one of the most influential concept artists and industrial designers of our time."
In my opinion the CyberTruck looks like a Syd Mead illustration off a 1981 OMNI magazine cover, of which I have several. (That's a compliment to Syd Mead, not the truck.)
I had the fortune of seeing Syd speak at one of the Siggraph conventions somewhere between 1995 and 2000. He seemed spent then, though his history was rich.
I used to buy A LOT of art books (still have most). I always meant to find the one he was promoting then. Since the internet has grown and image size is not cramped I haven't had much of a need for the top-resolution quality imagery in books when all I need is decent reference.
