I hope so! It's almost at the tipping point of being economically viable. The payback time right now is about 10 years for a solar panel. If they can get that down to 1 year, then we'd really be getting somewhere.

Bloomberg: Solar Farms Without Subsidy Sprout From Gloomy Britain to Italy - At least 15 projects in Europe are planned on the basis that government support won’t be needed to profit https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-09-10/solar-without-subsidy-sprouts-in-europe-no-subsidy-solar
It is surprising how much commercial solar exists in Britain - London is at 51 Degrees north!

For the DIY crowd the payback is in 5 years (This is without subsidies, just doing it yourself minus an electrician doing the termination at your electrical panel). Panels are under $0.50/watt buying 20 or more. Let me know if you need a source.

5 years? I looked in to it just a year ago and it was 10 years without subsidies. Good thing it's coming down, either way

Micro Inverters are about $100 each and 300w panels about $150. Ubiquiti has a nice calculator for their sunmax product that lets you overlay panels on google earth and calculate production. You can use it without making an account.
