It was not a great game.

Really? I don't play games much anymore, what's not good about it?

I'm rather meh on potter in general. As for the game, it's getting loads of perfect scores, yet I've seen zero examples of gameplay nor heard anything about it besides (open world) which has been done to death and frankly, was done the "best" way back with Oblivion.

I’m enjoying it. I have about 8 hours in at the moment and have yet to feel disappointed or feel my interest wane - which is saying something, if you saw my Steam account stats you’d think I have ADHD by how little I’ve played some games after spending a fortune on them (looking at you Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II & III).

I will add that I’m a reasonable Potter fan and have read the first book in the series multiple times to my classes, but I’ve never reread any of the others.

Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II & III

I salute you, my fellow victim of the Paradox trap! They didn't get my ass quite as good as they apparently got you though; I only got hooked by CKII and Stellaris before I realized the trap. So, you know, only a leg lost instead of an arm and a leg :D.

On the other hand though, Sega got what Paradox didn't with those fucking Endless games, so I'm not clear to brag too much over here.

Plenty of gameplay on Twitch right now, from streamers with early access copies.

No preorders! No exceptions. I'll probably buy it day one but I'll be damned if I let myself pre-order and support the horrible practice.

Apparently there's a tranny in this game...

"J.K. Rowling is not involved in the creation of the game,” the game’s official site says. “While remaining true to J.K. Rowling’s original vision, Portkey game developers chart new territory by creating fresh ways for fans to immerse themselves in the Wizarding World.”

There is, and the woke are upset because she's called "Sirona Ryan." Both the name and surname are pretty common in Ireland, but for those retards it's too similar to "Sir Ryan," which means it's transphobic.

They also were pissed off that her voice sounded too manly and accused the devs of artificially lowering it to ridicule them. Turned out that the person voicing this character is a transwoman, and it's her natural voice. Oops!

Lol. I thought the character’s voice was weird.

Played about 8 hours so far, the Troon has been in about 5 minutes.

Fun fact, I worked with Rebecca Root for a couple of years but only ever spoke to her on the phone. I used to think "wow, Rebecca has such a deep voice, which is odd because she's a voice coach so you'd think she'd work on that." Then one day she came into the office and was obviously a bloke. She gets a lot of work now because she is one of the few famous troons who can actually act.

Haha. Burned by their own desire to see transphobia.

Well, good on Root for finding that niche and cashing in on it without resorting the usual grifting. Not surprised that they're not happy though, they desperately want the illusion to be real, and it seems as though having a VA who isn't a whispy-voiced girly-girl type is a harsh reminder that this is not the case.

Which is hilarious in light of how many notable VAs for male characters are actually women. I've never seen or heard of any complaints there.

Unfortunately Root has come out as a TRA extremist since I knew her.

Is it a meaningful character or more of a "look at us, aren't we so virtuous by including one of your kind" cameo?

The owner of the Three Broomsticks, welcomes you in on your first visit, gives you a free butter beer and then scares away a baddie - have not seen them since that one encounter and they were not in the Three Broomsticks when I returned outside of that scripted encounter.

I would say that there are little touches in the game that are deliberately there to try and assuage the troon attacks - use of “they/them” instead of she or he for NPCs talking about the character (although this could be being done to save having to double up all the dialogue), the use of “witch” and “wizard” instead of girl or boy - and you can select either no matter which template you use during character creation. Even the signs on the toilet doors are a witch or wizard rather than explicitly girl or boy.

That being said, all that disappeared very quickly as the story began.

More noticeable to me, a brown person, was that all the villains are distinctly white and male whilst the good guys are appropriately diverse - but it’s still early days, I’m only 8 hours in and have only completed 9% of the main quest.

I’d honestly give this two big thumbs up despite being very vigilant towards any wokery I’ve not really seen much beyond the aforementioned Troon. I’m glad I gave it to myself for my birthday.

Sounds a bit like Cyberpunk 2077 then, which had one trans character. And while that character had an optional questline in which their being trans was somewhat relevant, it was basically mentioned and then done with.

Sounds par for the course for modern games I've played. Personally I'm all in favor of giving you the character customization options (I mean there really isn't any good reason to gender lock outfits or voices or whatever in a video game, choice is fine) but I have noticed in many they find some way to avoid outright the "are you a boy or a girl" question because Twitter nonces will throw a fit about how it persecuted them. Which is hilarious as you get two choices in many that are obviously "boy" or "girl" but instead they just say "choose your appearance" or something like that.

Who actually looks like a troon, which will trigger them.
