"social sciences" need to be stripped of the term "science". It's like a scientology.

There's legit scientific discussion and experimentation in there but there's loads of nonsense and pseudo science as well. Basically it's a lot like philosophy. I think it's important to discuss a lot of it but you're not going to get concrete conclusive evidence that your position is right, though many people will cite social science theories as established fact when in reality they are more like carefully constructed observations about people en masse.

It's telling with a lot of mental health issues how angry people get when you float the idea of "what if they are just pretending". Not that I ascribe to the idea that they are all fake, but the possibility of someone pretending to be retarded in order to gain something or skirt social norms isn't something that should be dismissed outright. Psychopaths exist.

This person clearly is one. He just wants to start a fight. Asks a question, then tells the person not to answer the question he just asked, refuses to answer the question himself afterwards, when confronted with that and the people not getting angry, he immediately switches to a new tactic, wild accusations of being "white supremacists".

I'm gonna go with borderline personality disorder as a prospective. This guy is doing the thing where you try to make someone angry by acting like a cunt, then you act offended when they respond normally with anger and play victim. It's a bullying tactic, you go to a kid, call them a stinky poo poo face and tell them you killed their pet, the kid then punches you, you go whining to teacher about how you got punched so you can get them in trouble.

We can rightly say that it's best to not respond to such things with anger, but being real here most people don't handle being harassed well lacking experience and will respond with anger or violence, which makes it a very effective tactic in the short term and on random targets who haven't wised up to the game yet.

Course occasionally you get idiots like this guy or the guys that would show up to Stephen Chowder's "Change my mind" booth where their own inflated ego made them think they could play this game with people who literally play it for a living and are much better at it. The results are always hilarious.

What we are seeing are the obvious consequences of making a job like being a teacher something less appealing or lucrative than being a McDonald's burger-flipper. The only people left doing that job, do it only to feel important...... they are the real life Reddit moderators. So this happens.

I really think the internet+COVID lockdown broke a lot of people's brains. Isn't this on a university campus? Is this a student? He talks like he's having a psychotic break. These people need to be protected from themselves.

It's Portland. He's probably high and having a psychotic break, most sane people will see that, decide nope not wasting my time here and move on which leaves them with relatively little pushback to their insanity but they'll end up with paranoia and lash out at anyone who shows the smallest disagreement with them as their friends family a social circles deteriorate and they replace them with like-minded unstable people.

They manage to stick around in college for a couple of reasons, one is that kids in college don't know any better and having just as much life experience as many professors (sadly) just assume the professor knows what they are talking about since they are in a position of authority. And second they don't really have a choice in the matter as few are paying for their own college and the realities of that environment tend to amplify the worst of corporatist abuses while minimizing the normal market pressures that would force this person out of any normal position in the real world.
