Maybe if you're so fragile that an errant pronoun makes you kill yourself, then you probably wouldn't have survived long anyway, trans or not?

Maybe that kind of mental fragility is a You problem and not a society problem?

Maybe those kinds of hair-triggered suicidal tendencies would be best treated with extensive psychological therapy?

Just throwing some ideas out there.

Maybe those kinds of hair-triggered suicidal tendencies would be best treated with extensive psychological therapy?

This. And yet other laws and rules of professional conduct have, in some places, made it illegal or a lose-your-license offense for psychologists to pursue anything other than affirmation, hoping that that will prove to be a magic band-aid for all the other underlying psychological co-morbidities. This is shaping up to be the big medical scandal of the early 21st C.

Without a doubt this is going to be a scandal en par with the scandal of lobotomy - worse, in fact, as medical research ethics is considerably more advanced now and as far as I can tell the practitioners of every stage of “gender affirming care” have ignored best practices regarding record keeping, consent, research evidence and outcomes.

Transition used to be the treatment of last resort -- when nothing else worked -- because doctors knew that transition doesn't work that well. All that has now been thrown out the window.

This article in the BMJ is fascinating.

For example, a recent analysis of insurance claims found that nearly 18,000 US minors began taking puberty blockers or hormones from 2017 to 2021, the number rising each year.

Meanwhile, the number of US private clinics focused on providing hormones and surgeries have grown from just a few a decade ago to more than 100 today.

Lots of fingers in the ears behaviour occurring.

Lots of assumptions there. From the looks of it her child killed themselves despite having a supportive family and transitioning.

It’s not a good advert for affirmation and transition is it?

That was my observation. There's nothing in this article to indicate that the child wasn't affirmed every step of the way. She's trying to claim he wasn't transed early enough, and I don't know whose fault that would be.

She should know that suicide rarely has a singular cause. The claim that preferred pronouns and names reduce suicide by 70% strikes me as unbelievable because where was the epidemic of child suicides before we were transing kids?

She's a physician herself, possibly professionally involved in pediatric transitions and seems to desperately need her belief system to be validated. Acknowledging that perhaps hormones and surgeries aren't a solution and that maybe she failed her daughter by setting her on that path must be unthinkable.

Maybe, just maybe, the person had psychological comorbidities like anxiety and depression and all that good stuff, like every trans person does :>

Imagine having to treat people exactly how they want to be treated at all times or else they'll kill themselves.

It’s funny if they were a boyfriend or girlfriend or spouse doing that we’d say they are toxic and manipulative. Add trans to the mix and suddenly we’re the problem.

I would have DC wiped out in a month with my trolling.

She believes society failed her child. She failed her child.

So in addition to there being a whole slew of things we are not allowed to say, we should be legally compelled to use their made up pronouns? Why is it my responsibility to uphold the delusions of mentally ill people?

Someone chooses to live life on hard mode and it’s on me to make them feel better about themselves? Fuck that shit.

They cry about “anti-trans” legislation and fail to understand that those bills come about because people, at present, see that as the only recourse they have against a group that refuses to regulate its own behavior.

Note that I said “at present”, because at some point, if the troons and their enablers don’t tone down it down, people may eventually decide that legal means aren’t the best course of action to discourage said behaviors. Anyone who is paying attention can already see a backlash building up.

Yep.

Most troons have a cluster b personality disorder and those are mostly caused by their upbringing between 0-3 as well as genetics.

[–]AriShekelsteinDDS 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s not a coincidence that many of them act like spoiled kids who were never told the word “no”. I wonder if a lot of this is driven by the fact that they were allowed to do whatever they wanted and were always praised and never criticized by their parents, only to discover that the real world isn’t as enamored with them as they are with themselves.

Look at the common traits: refusal to engage in self criticism, extreme reactions to being told they can’t do something (YOU’RE KILLING US!!!!), and walking around acting like they are untouchable.

Some of it as you said is genetic but I bet a lot of it is just shitty parenting and the fact that this bitch dares to sit in judgement of the rest of us pisses me off to no end.

Seriously. It’s ok to tell your kids no. It’s ok to tell them that sometimes they just need to sit down and shut the fuck up (in age appropriate terms of course), and it’s certainly ok to tell that while they’re special to YOU, the rest of the world doesn’t care if they live or die, so they better not get it in their heads that the world owes them shit.

That’s the not so fun part of raising a child. But it’s necessary, because that child is a future adult and they need to be given tools to succeed.

Instead, people like this woman grow (they don’t raise kids, they grow them) their little monsters and then expects society to accommodate them, and blames society when the kid fails.

Spoken like kids won't keep their pronouns secret and change them every split second to say that the teacher misgendered them at all times...or just as likely, make their pronouns slurs to say "use my pronouns and you're fired for being a racist/homophobe. Do not, and you're fired for being a transphobe. Checkmate, motherfucker. That'll teach you for giving me a C."

[–]xoenix 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The whole world needs to be put in shackles to keep your kid from offing themselves every time they go out in public or use the internet.

Fuck CBC for scraping the bottom of the US barrel to post this.

This just in - thoroughly useless, career obsessed mom blames everyone but herself for her absolute failure in parenting her daughter.

[–]UncleWillard56 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Dumbest logic. No one and no law is making it illegal to be trans. All it is doing is protecting children from overzealous parents and society, who are so determined to put them through drastic medical procedures and hormone therapy for a narrative, without giving them a fair chance to grow to adulthood. Whatever happened to "safe spaces?" Why can't kids be kids until they absolutely have to be adults?

[–]jet199 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Funny that most trans kids don't feel any dysphoria at all about pronouns until they transition.

The supposed cure creates the disease.

Surely it was just a matter of time if this is all it took. You can't legislate individual speech as much as you might like to. Eventually someone was going to correctly identify this large daughter for who she was and all the positive support at home doesn't mean shit when you suffer a narcissistic injury.
