"Too weak to sit upright"? Doesn't sound like normal Chronic Fatigue. Doesn't even sound like narcolepsy. I get it, getting totally worn out for seemingly no reason at all sucks, and it can feel alarmingly unnatural and scary when it strikes out of nowhere, but not being able to sit up in bed?

I'm no doctor, but I feel like she might have had two things. Either way, I hope her stuffed dog went to a good home.

Sounds like extreme depression to me. Might be some health cause underlying it somewhere. Hard to say.

I've got a couple of friends that can get real bad depression and it's frustrating to deal with because the obvious answer to most of their issues is the not very helpful, "just do shit anyway and stop giving a fuck about if you feel depressed or not" which TBF is the correct answer, but it's not something they know how to do. It's not something you can teach. It's just literally do or don't.

I've been through some real bad depression before and it fucked with me, but coming out the other side you understand that a lot of the shit you were worried about was just fucking stupid, a lot of the reasons you tell yourself for not doing something are just fucking stupid. But they don't seem stupid when you are depressed.

So yeah I don't want to do anything but lay in bed all day sometimes. That's normal, you do that though and your depression actually gets worse.

I think what depression patients really need is a boot camp instructor to just wake them up at 4:00 am and make them run like 3 miles before breakfast. They'll fucking hate it and it will suck but they'll stop giving a shit about whatever other issues they have after that.

Her feed shows that she's completely immersed in leftist doomerism, and demoralized by the fact that everyone wasn't locked down forever due to covid.

demoralized by the fact that everyone wasn't locked down forever due to covid.

Almost makes me want a Twitter account just to read that, because I can't believe that someone actually thinks those lockdowns were any kind of good thing.

I personally loved it. But I'm a misanthrope who wants to do nothing but stay up all night painting and reading.

Saw plenty of that during peak COVID. But it was mostly a bunch of paranoid magical thinking where people thought the virus would go away if only everyone would just stay inside for two weeks.

Mostly idiots, naturally even countries that did have extremely strict measures like China couldn't actually contain it totally. Because you know, it's literally impossible to do that. But you know, well it failed but if only people would. Literally retards.

Also a bunch of people who are overly online cudgemuffins basically didn't see any change in lifestyle since they are just basically living off their parents money and take out regardless. Now if you told them that takeout was banned and they had to actually cook food they'd probably throw a fit.

Fun fact, New Zealand had a 5 week lockdown where takeout and delivery were banned. I'm honestly surprised there wasn't a rash of house fires from first-time cooks.

I remember somewhere down under they were going after some guy that went out camping alone in the middle of nowhere because he broke lockdown. It was beyond retarded. You realize the guy out in the wilderness alone isn't in contact with anyone and that by sending people to arrest him you are the ones "breaking lockdown" and increasing the risk of infection right? So fucking stupid.

Some people simply lost their damn minds during Covid and they never recovered. They could show everyone what good people they were by staying home.

It was the Super Bowl for scolds and nags who didn’t see their income or their quality of life decline. They could dime out their neighbors for having a gathering and small businesses who made decisions they didn’t agree with.

I don’t even think these people were afraid of getting sick. They just didn’t like that others were being “disobedient”….because being obedient is the one thing these people are good at.

Others loved lockdowns because they didn’t suffer much from them, and people they didn’t like (working class folks who couldn’t do remote work) were suffering. They also loved lockdowns because they believed the economic impact would hurt Trump’s reelection chances.

It was pretty clear by May of 2020 that the “public safety measures” had nothing to do with public safety and everything to do with politics.

Covid was no longer a disease. It was a political position.

I'd perscribe a two month wilderness retreat. No people. No internet. Live off the land in a tent away from everyone for awhile like your own personal lockdown. You have to get up and make your own food or you die. Basically it's a nice vacation from bullshit.

I mean if you're going to kill yourself anyway, might as well kill yourself by starving to death in the wilderness like a badass.

The medical homicide bothers me less than the weird social media angle surrounding it.

Like it think it's a pretty dangerous precident to set for doctors to get involved but I don't get much outrage from someone who themselves wants to kill themselves doing so, it's just sad.

What really bothers me is that the social media attention might lead to immitation.

Honestly, this is similar to the abortion debate, and with physician-assisted suicide the "safe, legal, and rare" is even more needed. When the euthanasia is for "someone's at the end of a terminal disease and they're in too much pain, and it's putting them out of their misery" is perfectly reasonable.

This one of "so...you're having euthanasia because you're tired all the time?" is not only past the "euthanize them because they're depressed", but goes past it to "...some kid broke up with his high school girlfriend who he's sure was his twoo wuv and wants to be euthanized for it" in "hell no."

Yeah good point. I thought the media used to make a point of not drawing attention to suicide in order not to encourage copycats (back when we recognized that social contagion was a thing)? Now they're actively promoting it.

[–]LordoftheFliesAmeri-kin 2.0. Pronouns: MegaWhite/SuperStraight/UltraPatriarchy 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

That particular media concern went out the window when mass shootings and other sorts of large-scale (but not military or "official" terrorism) casualty events--to say nothing of the social and political shitstorms that inevitably sprung up in their wake--started becoming viewer hooks that could be used to peddle advertising and curated opinions.

[–]Alienhunter糞大名 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Hey if writing a story about mass shootings pays the bills people will do that.

I mostly like to blame the readers for enabling it. I almost never bring up such unpleasant news with my friends unless it's somehow directly relevant to our lives, 99% of the time it is not, and they've learned not to bring it up with me because their inevitable question of "why does this happen" is met with me telling them it's their fault for talking about it so much. Not directly of course, but aggregated across the whole population, you go out and shoot up a school, boom you're infamous now, and because you can't help yourself to push like and forward to all your friends, congrats you've just spread that shit and normalized something that really is quite rare statistically. Now every copycat and twisted individual that wants their 24 hours of infamy is gonna go with mass shooting as their go to instead of idk, just offing themselves.

Like imagine you're some unhinged individual having a shit day and you hate everyone and want to see the world burn, maybe you just sit at home and be miserable. Maybe you scream at people and be angry, or maybe you scroll through Facebook see a rampage killing and think, "oh I should do that that will show em"

Why share that shit in general? Like sure if you're in a group that discusses such crime and relevant precautions that's one thing, but like, why would you put that on your Facebook.

Pictures of grandma, 10 secret recipes your doctor doesn't want you to know about, angry guy brutally slaughters a bunch of children, best Bahama vacation destinations.

Yeah- once there's at least one mass shooting where the shooter flat-out said "I'm doing this shooting to become famous", there needs to be damnatio memorae on mass shootings. It's an act of terror, so declare mass shooters enemies of the state (which means naming the shooter is considered an act of treason)- it'll stop the shooting news and even give the shooter's family a bit of solace [since they'll never truly know if their kid was another victim or the perpetrator.)

The social media angle makes it seem deeply narcissistic, as though the goal all along was to extract sympathy from people posthumously. That they couldn't actually be there to witness it because, well, dead, seems like the kind of oversight narcissists don't consider.

Wait a second. Wait a fucking second. Tell me this ISN'T a normal young lady who happens to suffer from severe depression, AND WAS EUTHANIZED. Please tell me I misunderstood it.

Wait, she suffers from a condition that makes her weak and tired? Well too bad she couldn't complain about that with Stephen Hawking.

This isn't the suicide room concept from a bunch of dystopian tales, isn't it??

Comrade. She is a dead weight on the machinery of society. Understand comrade that we all must have out part to play in society and that once our task is complete and our usefulness is judged inadequate by our glorious dear leader Alienhunter (Inshallah), it is our duty to go happily and joyously to the great people's glue factory signing the glorious song "Alienhunter needs your Venmo money to keep from having to find a job"
