Yeah, though I'd push back slightly on the free speech segment, as we've discussed previously: Bill Ackman is a Democrat. This is mostly a fight between two groups who both hate me and would love to silence and/or imprison me for my opinions, so I'm not remotely inclined to defend either.

I know damn well they're snakes and I'm not taking them in.

That's the framing they're pushing and it's a complete distraction/deflection. It's the whole divide and conquer thing.

It's not a fight between two groups; they're the same group.

To add to sensei's words, being able to say whatever the fuck you want isn't partisan. It's not political. It's just "well yeah, fucking duh".

Anybody pushing back against it, no matter the topic, the name, the letters, the colors, the flags, goes on the "fucking dipshit" shelf along with all the rest.

You realize this is the part of the movie where the villain's dangling off a cliff and begging for help and we all yell "LET HIM FALL" at the screen, right, because we can see he's clutching a gun in his free hand?

Unfortunately, everyone who advocated for that position was mocked, banished, fired, suppressed, and cancelled by the people whining about being cancelled now. I love Glenn, but he's foolishly taking up the cause of Michael Eisen, detailed in The Atlantic:

That's a fair critique. I think it's clear that what was once a good thing - the ability for individuals to speak out about abuses of power has been transformed into something terrifying - mobs that overrun institutional checks and balances.

"What was once a good thing." He's still in favor of people being silenced - just not when it happens to him.

Michael Eisen set the fire, and he's still stoking it - from the inside. I'll defend Glenn, because he's been consistent and principled. I might defend some of the vanishingly few leftists who can say the same, if I happen to be in a good enough mood to bother to verify their story.

But Michael Eisen, and everyone like him, can burn.

The point I agree with is that first amendment principles should be foundational and not conditional. Otherwise, some opinions get privileged over others and that's a huge part of the problem we have with staying informed as citizens and with countering the opportunistic narratives of the decision-makers driving the country into a ditch.

Sadly still more than one year to go for at least one of those two. Who knows how much more world-impacting crap they'll be able to cram into it.

Well... I say 'until then' but given that whoever replaces Biden will be the same or worse... That's not where help will be coming from.
