The last Ukrainian propaganda about this island was complete crap, all lies, I have no doubt this is the same. For the entirety of the Russian invasion, Russian has stuck to where and what it has stated it's goals are. At this point, Russia has significantly more credibility than Ukraine. It sounds like Russia was already planning to leave and did. Ukraine is just looking to not look like shit on every front.

Yes you're right that Russia is an empire of lies and deceit but I think your skepticism is misplaced this time. You're right about the lies they tell - today theyre pretending that really they have just done all "assigned tasks" (read: a lot of dying) and are going home with the snakes totally denazified

Russia’s ministry of defence stated that it had completed its assigned tasks and was tactically withdrawing to allow for grain exports from Ukraine’s Black Sea ports.

“In order to organise humanitarian grain corridors as part of the implementation of joint agreements reached with the participation of the UN, the Russian Federation decided to leave its positions on Zmiinyi Island,” the defence ministry said

Ukraine said it had forced Russian troops to flee overnight on two speed boats. The statement, by Ukraine’s southern command, said explosions could still be heard and the island was covered in smoke, appearing to indicate that battles were continuing.

Well of course they'll allow the mines to be removed. They didn't put them there to begin with. And so according to your title allowing for grain exports is retreat and surrender?

Ukraine does not deny mining its own ports in order to protect them from an amphibious attack by Russia, given that one of its key war objectives is to gain control of Ukraine’s ports along the Black Sea coast.

K. I think it's a little too late to save face now.

Why did you think I needed to read that Ukraine also laid mines, if you accept that I didn't say only ruzzia laid mines.

Point to where I accused you of that

It's not like your quote is full of useful information. It simply acknowledges that Ukraine also laid mines. So I'm gonna point right there.
