Curtis Yarvin, better known as Mencius Moldbug, recently released a lengthy article in which he lays out his analysis of power as it exists in America today. So you don't have to read the whole thing, Zero HP Lovecraft summarized the main points in this diagram. (The full article can be read here.)
Starting from the bottom, I agree that the Castle (the military, police force) is subservient to power. They do as they are told. A military coup seems very unlikely in America today.
The Factory refers to all of capitalism, and Moldbug identifies it as a "herbivore" that is "inherently impotent". I think he's selling it a little short; after all, a large number of powerful billionaires did actually make their money rather than inherit it, and in this sense power does more than "leak up" as in Lovecraft's diagram.
The Bureau refers to the civil service, including elected officials, who mindlessly follow process, escalating up when a decision needs to be made. He astutely observes that while some power exists here, it is totally subservient to the Cathedral.
The Cathedral is the idea Moldbug is most famous for and is where he claims true power lies. I agree. He breaks down the Cathedral into the Brain (academia), the Voice (journalism), the Foundation (nonprofits), the School (education) and the Conversation (educated opinion). These institutions being the true center of power is very clear to anybody who sees, say, Trump's ineffectiveness or the continual cucking of supposed "conservatives" even when they are in power. Even some supposed "far-right" figures espouse belief in equality and diversity and claim that race doesn't matter. They agree to the Conversation (consensus that race isn't real and diversity is good) started by the Voice (the social justice activists in media) and just say that "free markets" are the "real way to achieve diversity".
It's important to note that these true centers of power are wildly disproportionately Jewish. (I should note also that Moldbug, despite being half-Jewish himself, admits as such; I think he said society is very "Jewey" or some such expression to mean we are in a society that massively favors Jews.) Jews are massively over-represented at institutions like Harvard (the Brain), media ownership and journalism like the New York Times (the Voice), charitable foundations (that promote social justice and democracy) such as George Soros's Open Society Foundations (the Foundation), and those who seek to reshape education through critical theory, critical pedagogy and critical race theory, to put education in line with the regime, such as the Frankfurt School (the School). Rich gentile businessmen exist, but under Moldbug's analysis here they don't really have much power; if they start anti-Cathedral foundations they would quickly be targeted by the Voice (attacked by the media).
As for the show, I think everyone here fully understands that party politics is just a facade over an oligarchic regime; Moldbug identifies it as a "materialist clerical oligarchy" aka a materialist theocracy. I think a key take-home point is that the Republic is already dead and those with real power are just wearing its skin. Contrary to many thinkers on the right, Moldbug does not identify this with demographic trends, and in fact one can see that demographic replacement is a consequence of the fact our elites have already been replaced rather than the other way around.
A key omission from Moldbug's analysis is the effect of technology on the whole GloboHomo process. It's not mentioned at all, and for me it is truly the Engine which allows the power of the Cathedral to grow and grow, homogenizing the world into a deracinated multicultural hellscape. Moldbug points out that most paths to defeating the Cathedral are either closed or very difficult. Technology is the reason why - in times past, an armed group of men, sufficiently organized, could have challenged power. In America today that is effectively impossible - but not only that, taking power through softer means is also denied through technological control of the media and of the internet.
Overall I think this is a pretty accurate analysis of power; it maybe understates the power of capital and omits discussion of the JQ and of technology, but gets the basic structure of power correct. Definitely worth a read if you haven't already.
For more Moldbug, including his take on the JQ and gay Hitler, he had a lengthy appearance on Borzoi's podcast last month.
