was a good one. was particularly interesting to learn currency emerges from the state rather than the people, i always just accepted the popular meme

Everything emerges from the state, even markets.

Makes sense. To have order you need to have a hegemon. Money/currency and it's value is set by the hegemon. Markets are organized by the hegemon, i.e. who is allowed to participate. This is where libertarianism gets particularly unfeasible. That isn't to say it doesn't have some ideals worth striving towards but it's ultimate aim is a pipedream.

The modern problem is that instead of agreeing to have an immutable hegemon (ultimately I think this is what the purpose of the concept of God was until it was anthropomorphized and perverted, i.e. Truth and other ideals for an individual and society to live up to), which was ultimately defined/determined over time through reasoning and established by tradition, we now live in a time where relativism is dominant, i.e. spectrum this and that, egalitarianism, etc. It's like living in a world where a compass has no use.

Here's a comprehensive article about degrowth — it mentions several books on the subject if anyone is interested in exploring the subject further.

I confess I have a poor understanding of economics but Keith Woods is right — unless the growth paradigm is discarded globalism is inevitable as capital seeks out every last possible pocket of natural wealth to exploit.

We're not going to degrow because the masses want their cheap plastic crap.

globalism is inevitable as capital seeks out every last possible pocket of natural wealth to exploit.

The biosphere will collapse long before that. It's already collapsing. We've lost 70% of all wildlife in just 50 years!

Ecological collapse is honestly the biggest whitepill out there. The only way this system's going down is by force of nature. I suspect it's likely that the system will still survive, though, but it's our only real shot.

I agree.

I highly doubt that.
