I'm just confused about this woman being both an athiest and strongly identified Jew, since were continually told that Jews are a religion not an ethnicity or race.

Could it be that Jews largely see themselves as an ethnic group, and a substantial number of liberal Jews that support Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state are supporting what they view to be an ethnostate?

It doesn't though. Belief in Yahweh is only one of hundreds of rules they are supposed to follow. Judaism is based much more on ritual rather than belief.
