It seems to be the case that this recent resurgence in nationalism has had 3 stages so far. 2015-16 was the first time genuine nationalism started to get political traction. Then, the new parties that popped up or became popularized in that era started to lull in popularity upon people realizing that they tended to concede on various key issues.
Currently, we see an even more nationalistic response. Fratelli d'Italia gains popularity, political extremism skyrocketed in Germany, and explicitly ethnonationalist groups started popping up in the UK.

Another trend we're seeing is the popularity of economically left-wing movements as well. I feel that there's a significant overlap in people drawn to nationalism, and workers becoming exhausted by the exploitation of the global corporate elite.

Nationalists need to play it very smart in the current political landscape. Circumnavigating the political censors to reach their target supporters, avoiding constant attempts at de-platforming, and competition by 'false' nationalists and socialists.

As someone who's given up on the political process long ago, the tenacity and grit these nationalists have astounds me. They deserve all the support we can give them.

Where? The Green party has exploded in popularity recently. If you think Merkel is bad, wait till you see them

I think he means the killing of that pro-refugee politician and the rise of the neofascist AfD faction in East Germany.

By the way, the Greens have just stolen the SPD's electorate. That's it. There is no leftist popularity explosion in Germany.

Lega is more right-wing than N-VA though.

She's actually more popular than Salving now. In fact, she's the most popular politician in Italy after Conte.

I would be interested to see how things would look if the Five Star vote share was split among the other parties. It is very strange to see such a parliamentary surge for the Italian right wing almost exactly a century after the birth of Fascism, but I am not sure what to expect going forward. I feel like the natural model for this type of parties is the Orban one, which I believe to be very flawed.

Why? I would actually expect that. Liberalism always collapses into chaos eventually.

It is flawed, but still much better than mainstream conservatism. It's something we can work with.

It's just a bit ironic, since Fascism was perhaps the least parliamentary movement in Italy at the time.

      Good point.

The real rise to power is when we start taking over the EU.

This is never going to happen. The EU as an institution can not be taken over from the outside without some sort of a miracle. You can replace the EU, but you can not take it over.

We need to do both. We need to take over as much of its institutions we can while dismantling the ones we can't take over.

          Guy Verhofstadt

I apologize for this cretin's existence. XD

Sure, but he wants an open economic zone with Africa. That's literally the worst idea of all time.

I would want an alliance with China actually.

Enthusiasm can't make the impossible possible, the EU is a robustly structured liberal institution. You can't subvert it.
