Thankfully the original series and LOTR were made in different eras. GoT began right before society started to get "woke" and even though it lasted well into the great awokening it didn't really effect it that much.

How blacked will the new LOTR show be?

    There wasn't anything woke other than some strong womyn stuff. Point is the show retained an overwhelmingly European cast which if it were developed and made today it would not be.

    Rumor has it one of the reasons why what's his face in the chair became king was because the writers were concerned that, had Jon gotten it, which all signs in the story throughout the series suggested he should have, the woke crowd would have been up in arms that a white man beat out a woman (Khaleesi). Instead, they figured giving it to a cripple would make everyone happy, as it so clearly did.

    The show didn't start going woke until the writers stopped having JRR's stuff to fall back to. It wasn't super woke, not by today's standards, but that's only because it ended before things got really, really bad culturally.

    I haven't watched it, mainly cuz I heard everyone say the ending sucked, but they said that some kid became king, not the cripple. And he was a white kid.

    Yeah, the crippled psychic kid. He takes the throne. You should watch the show, for all its faults, it's still one of the best shows ever made, especially the first 6 seasons or so. I liked it, despite the questionable last season.

    ok i didn't know he was crippled, I thought the guy played by peter dinklage was the cripple, and he is just a dwarf tho?

    I can't watch anything with a known bad ending. No point, would be a waste of time. Sopranos and Lost are like that too. Why would I spend like 50 hours on a long multi season show that has a bad ending.

    Well, it's still interesting despite the ending. I didn't mind it. I loved 95% of the show, hell even the finale had its charms. I didn't think it was as bad as people have said. The hour and a half long battle episode against the white walkers in the 7th season, for instance, I thought was one of the best of the series. I don't even mind the kid in the wheelchair getting the throne, even though it very clearly belonged to Jon Snow.

    Also, the finale to the Sopranos was brilliant. You really should watch that show. One of the very best ever made. Don't let a few naysayers who "didn't get it" turn you off to it. It's pretty obvious what they were going for in the finale, and it pulled it off pretty brilliantly. Lost, yeah, the ending sucked. Still a decent show, but ultimately amounted to nothing. Same with Battlestar Galactica, if you were a fan of that show. Loved it until the middle of the 3rd season, then it's pretty hit and miss until the finale, which was just a big piece of crap. Mad Men too had a pretty lame finale despite being brilliant from Season 2 onward. But whatever. I still enjoyed the ride.

    Breaking Bad is pretty consistent throughout, as is The Shield. Deadwood is also excellent, but some episodes are a bit of a chore to get through since the dialogue is difficult at times and the pacing is slow, and then it just ends without any good resolution. The movie that came out many years later tried to make amends, and does so sort of, but it's too little, too late. Still definitely worth watching.

    well the general concensus is the ending sucked. You're rare in saying it was good. I won't risk many hours watching it in the hopes you're right and 99% of people are wrong.

    Sopranos just ended on black. Terrible. Try hard and cringe. They just didn't know how to end it. Though I heard the new movie with his son might explain what happened? Not sure about that but you shouldn't need a movie years later to fix a show.

    I was watching battlestar galactica in it's first 2 seasons but it seemed to be jumping the shark so I stopped watching, no surprise the ending sucked, I got that spoiled and that made no sense.

    I agree Breaking Bad was great, great ending, good example of a great show. I still need to watch the newer Deadwood movie but even if they never made that, I felt it's ending was ok. At least just not try hard and cringe. With something like that, based on real life with real characters, I never expected them to have some sort of big finale ending. Like with that it would be ok for it to end with the characters just alive and doing their thing.

    I wouldn't say it was good, I just didn't think it was the worst thing in the world. Some parts of it I liked, and others I thought were terrible and badly written, like the final battle between the sea guy and incest brother, and incest brother and non-lesbian lesbian-looking swordswoman, and incest brother and incest sister, and the stuff with Emilia Clark, which seemed rushed, (it's been a while since I watched the show and have forgotten all the names). I didn't love it, but I found the finale of Lost, Mad Men, and Battlestar to be way, way more disappointing.

    Sopranos ended on black because Tony was shot in the head and instantly killed. It was from his perspective, and once he died, he was just gone, thus ending the show on black. It was a bold move that didn't work for some people, but I thought it was brilliant.

    Yes, Battlestar started jumping the shark around the 5th episode of the 3rd season, unfortunately. I think Ron Moore, the executive producer, was being pulled in too many directions at the time (he was hired on a bunch of films and was developing a second show), and as a result, the overall story started to suffer. There are some good episodes here and there, but overall, very disappointing. Caprica was decent, but it never achieved the highs of Battlestar and probably never would have had it been allowed to continue.

    Deadwood waited too long, unfortunately. The film was good for the first hour, but the second hour just didn't make sense. The characters all were clearly way older than last we saw them, yet the plot tried to continue after the finale of the third season almost like no time passed in between, explaining it away as "oh nothing of interest happened in the town for 10 years." I understand they didn't have much of a choice, but they really could have gone in another direction maybe. But whatever, more Deadwood is better than one, and at least we got some kind of conclusion. Shame the creator is suffering from Alzheimer's. Such brilliantly written dialogue and characters and story.

    I will need to see the Deadwood movie at some point. I guess it's probably on HBO Max, I could get it from a library maybe, that's how I saw the show. I really like westerns but we don't get that many new ones.

    They've been changing whites and others into blacks since the second season of Game of Thrones. Look at that pirate and that merchant who gets locked in the vault.

    It will either be bad to start, or they will suck you in with a decent show and ruin it later (GOT)

    Game of Thrones was always devoid of character development. Nothing but torture porn and cable tv soft porn. I cannot think of a more overrated show.

    i enjoyed the first couple seasons. was mainly just characters talking and an interesting plot

    It looks good and I am hopeful, but all signs point to it likely being a woke piece of garbage. I'm also not holding my breath for Amazon's LOTR series, which will likely be an even greater disaster.

    Call me an old curmudgeon, but I disagree.

    But it's just pornography with extra fantasy plot added, so I'm obviously not its target demographic. Maybe for those who seek out this type of cable and HBO titillation, "woke" really started after The Man Show died. But for the rest of us, it was just another woke Tuesday.

    There was a clear shift in the mainstream culture of liberalism around that time. How many people knew of terms like "white privilege" and "cultural appropriation" in 2007 compared to 2017? You can even look at google trends to see the increase in this type of discourse.

    my first memory of realizing things were "woke" and didn't make sense was as a kid the burger kings kids club had cartoon kids of different races and a kid in a wheel chair. But in real life all the kids at school segregated themselves according to race and black kids were the rudest. You couldn't be friends with them. This was som time in the 90s. Me and my friends talked about how it was weird, we didn't know about terms like woke or criticial race theory but we guessed burger king did it because they wanted people of all races to go there and give them money so this was a quick easy campaign to do that.

    If you're a grown man and you're excited for a TV show then you need to reevaluate your life. It's probably time to lay off the sugar, soy and vegetable oils.
