$6M against James Alex Fields

They really like that number.

Terrible outcome based on zero evidence, not to mention the blatant hypocrisy of looking the other way on Antifa and the other disruptors

There is no justice to be had in the US legal system. Rittenhouse was just an accident, he would have been railroaded if the evidence wasnt so overwhelming. Forget any notions fair play or "rights" - these are illusory. The system will fuck you if it can

This. You also just know if that it had been proved that Rittenhouse actually had dissident racial or political opinions the entire complexion of the case would have changed and he'd be in jail now for the rest of his life.

If he hadn't missed Jumpkick Man, he'd be in prison now. That's all it would've taken. Lin Wood wouldn't have come near him, so he wouldn't have even gotten the bail money.

Lin Wood wouldn't have come near him,

Did you see the interview with Kyle on Tucker where he accused him of grifting? What a scumbag.

He and that Barnes Law guy.

Conservatives are the enemy now.

Sorry who accused who of grifting?

Rittenhouse accused Lin Wood of grifting and keeping him in jail to raise more funds -- funds I understand that Wood is going to be trying to claim as his own according to Kyle's attorney Richards.

Utter conservative QAnon scum.

Fuck, I’m going to get banned if I tell you how I really feel about him.

I didn’t even know that maggot was a Q believer but why ain’t I surprised…

I'll give him this he did at least represent Richard Jewell back in the day and represented him well but I mean FFS what a piece of shit he is now.

If he hadn't missed Jumpkick Man, he'd be in prison now.

I think you're right, but we all know that Jumpkick man was engaging in a coordinated assault against Rittenhouse. Jumpkick man should be in hell with his friends right now.

Fields has a life sentence plus an additional 419 years and now he has to pay 12 million. "Guilty" of 29/30 federal hate crime charges. I know this is just symbolic but jesus.

[–]wristaction 11 insightful - 4 fun11 insightful - 3 fun12 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

And the BLM soldier who murdered your children at a Christmas Parade will maybe serve eight years of a twenty year sentence.

Anytime whites organize a protest related to an 'unapproved' position they are attacked. How are you suppose to exercise your first amendment rights? There is no legal protection at all if you are advocating white rights. The system seems to have moved whites into some type of second or third class citizenship.

[–]wristaction 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

That happened when they carved out "protected class" for everyone who is not white in the CRA.

[–]wristaction 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Yeesh. A post on gab had given me the impression they got $10 each. This kinda looks like they balked at the really constitution-trashing charges but went ahead and fulfilled the SLAPP intentions of the suit.

Not a victory.

500k against all defendants is damning enough. If they had decent money, they could maybe appeal. That takes me money, and lawyers who are willing to take the case.

[–]Fonched 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Glad at least the first two charges were not contested, but the rest of it is just damning. There needs to be forward thinking in this case as to how we can still get our First Amendment-protected speech heard, and how not to get trapped in a sticky situation in the future.

Now, an interesting question related to UTR. I recall many saying that these protests would have elevated the alt-right to mainstream political presence had there not been such a scary scene at the rally and a major fallout for nationalists after August 12. What if tension between both sides of the protest remained calm, and the Fields situation never happened?

All the defendats in the Arbery trial now convicted. All will spend the rest of their life in prison.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Life in prison?? What the fuck...

Tbh, I expected all three trials to go the way they did, but I didn't expect McMichaels will spend life in prison.

Even the guy who just filmed it was found guilty of multiple felonies including murder.

The son who shot him was found gulity of malicious murder which could have potentially meant he faced the death penalty. So fucked up.

Finally a relatively mainstream voice speaks up about this utter debacle.

Weird how TRS is celebrating this as a victory, they are delusional.

[–]Fonched 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

I've heard somber talk from some of their people, but the celebration mostly goes that Charges 1 and 2 were not accounted for or that the defendants do not have enough money to pay damages.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I also heard punitive damages can't be over 10x bigger than compensantory, supreme court case State Farm vs. Campbell made that ruling.

So people who are only guilty on third charge are only going to pay under $100 and not $500k.

Pinging /u/88Bit

[–]88BitSorelianism 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Ok this could make sense if they are only paying $100 but I'm not really seeing that more than just a couple comments.

[–]Fonched 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Regardless of this, they are still finding a way and banking on the fact there are 25 defendants listed to pay all the damages. Who knows if they apply the same strategy elsewhere, to groups who actually have money and are more likely to retain such until their civil suits conclude.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Spencer, Cantwell, Azzmador and Eli Mosley will have to pay 200k still, but at least they don't have to pay 700k and Parrott, Heimbach, Hill and Tubbs don't have to pay 500k.
