I think you are missing the part where economy instability made a lot of people invest in precious metals and gems pushing the prices up so much of modern jewellery design is about using less material and making it look like more than it is.

I never liked jewels. Only rare metals.

Classical "jewels" feel always a little bit over the top to me.

And since i'm notoriously scattered i wouldn't dare to wear something expensive. Even if i'd dare to buy it.

Cheap steel sells to the worthless vanity of young influencers obsessed only in image instead of seeking value in anything precious
