its called 'spot prices'. Basically suppliers price units to control demand.

i'm off grid, with generator backup for the solar. But even so, it would have been hard to have that happen here. no wetback on my fire so hot water would have been an issue.

Well, it seems the ruling class won twice. First, they were not required to build a robust power grid. Next, when their cheapo plants failed they got to raise prices. So the rich got richer, just like the system was designed to work.

How do you explain the fact that socialist/communist countries normally have blackouts without any natural disasters to blame?
