I use https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.github.yeriomin.yalpstore/ to have one foot in the door. Use lucky patcher to crack the apps I've bought on Play and AFWall+ to lock down most stuff.

I use Truecaller because the phone company I'm with took the original caller id that comes with android and wants you to pay $2.99 a month for theirs. So, I said no way and got something else.
