I'm so much happier and healthier now that I'm not a leftist angry about every little thing.

Funny that.

What disturbs me is that for years, I wished everyone would "wake up" and "why couldn't they see what was really going on," and now that I've moved beyond all that childish nonsense, suddenly everyone seems to "care soooo deeply." So, yeah, still a little bitter about that one.

You can get what you want or you can just old -- Vienna waits for you...

You're healthier? That sounds a bit contrived.

being low stress and not worrying about things does lead to better physical health

[–]Tom_Bombadil 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (20 children)

It's still contrived. It's a substanceless talking point that is intended to garner support from the well-intentioned.

One could also reduce internal stress by embracing sociopathic tendencies.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (19 children)

that's an interesting point. a sociopath probably thinks he or she is right so has no stress. has no ulcers or high blood pressure that might come from stress. I don't think leftists are sociopaths tho, they want to improve the world, and get worried about all the problems. I too worry about the economy, wars, climate change possibly being real, etc. I worry about not having a family. But I also have a glass half full and sit and think about all the good things in the world and my money and properties and that helps me stay grounded. I'm not totally stress free but I don't think I have mental illnesses which this survey talks about.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (18 children)

The point i'm making is that low stress and improved health does not always equate to improved outcomes.

Enduring stress in an effort for the improved outcomes of others; is an honorable decision.

Alleviation of stress for selfish reasons should not be considered honorable.

THE TITLE OF THIS ARTICLE AND THE PROMINENT POSITION ON THE SITE SERVES THE INTERESTS OF SHILLS WHO WOULD LIKE TO DISCOURAGE REDDITORS FROM JOINING THE COMMUNITY.

17 insightful votes and 16 funny votes is bit high for such a low-grade submission.

Has anyone else noticed a pattern?

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

Yeah, a pattern is there. And a lot of it is from based posters.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

I suspect otherwise.

The shills are here to discourage Redditors from joining a site that isn't controlled by their Masters.

Their Masters can't control the message or narrative, so they are attempting to smear the site instead with absurd posts that are upvoted by sock puppets servants.

Many of the votes are probably real, but the title is click bait for those who recognize some of the failings of the current "left".

The story has little or no substance, and is predicated on surveys. Survey questions can be manipulated to generate a preferred outcome. It's amateurish.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

Yep! Precisely what I meant by: based posters :)

Couldn't agree more. There are many around!

[–]Zahn 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

That was a perfectly valid blocking maneuver! But you're right, I'm agitating Tom to the point he found the CAPS LOCK key again...and the BOLD FORMATTING Nooooo.

Propaganda alert: "Leftist" is an Israeli term of derision.

No one in the US says that term in that way.

on this forum, to note those differences usually results in people having breakdowns.

    [–]beermeem 3 insightful - 4 fun3 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 4 fun -  (21 children)

    oh hai leftist

I remember when "Liberal" was an American term of derision. Ah, the good old days.

    [–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (20 children)

the media, owned by israel, had made liberalism, leftism, and socialism terms of derision, theyir central bank wants capitalism, aka let the rich do whatever they want and bribe politicians.

    [–]Zahn 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

I enjoy your perspective, but it doesn't quite add up. The mainstream media and academia overwhelmingly promotes liberalism and socialist policies..ie..Marxism, while demonizing Right leaning ideologies to the point of blatant censorship.

I understand that elite leftists are ultimately pro-corporate and pro-war. However, claiming they're trying to make their minions and useful idiots become sources of ridicule, which affects their credibility, seems like a stretch.

    [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

they divide and conquer, now the medisa promotes identity politics but not leftwing economics. Bernie is wildy populr because he does the opposite. HOWEVER, I am not naive to think that if he somehow becomes president, he will not sell out. Either that or he would be JFK'd.

    [–]Zahn 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Yeah, I get what you're saying and understand how both sides are intentionally agitated to create conflict. I'm just not entirely convinced that when a right leaning news outlet etc. points out problems caused by prevalent left wing ideologies, that the right leaning source is automatically (as Tom Bombadil would say) an "Israeli propaganda site". I have found a few instances that are suspicious, but many genuinely seem to be grassroots resistance to global corporatism.

    [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

haha tom is against speaking in general, are there israeli propaganda sites out there? yes. does that mean every news site is one? No. Just cuz something possibly occurs he wants to always bring it up and that makes it hard to discuss anything. Now to mention a rw, grassroots resistance to global corporatism. Globalism? Corporatism? Capitalism right? Being for these things used to be considered rw. Bill Clinton got criticized from the left for NAFTA. They call it neoloiberalism. Why not regular liberalism, why the neo? Laiiz faire, free market capitalism, classical liberalsim. Socialism is against this. Socialism is not necessarily liberal, liberal and conservative don't necessarily match up with leftwing and right wing. It shouldn't all get put in a box. How about national socialism. Gets a bad reputation because of what went down with WWII. If they weren't rounding up jews and invading other countries, what would have been the problem? USSR. Was that national socialism too? That nation being russia. If they weren't putting people in gulags and invading eastern europe would they have been so bad? Ok end of rant.

    [–]Zahn 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Good /rant, thank you for your intelligent input.

    [–]Tom_Bombadil 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (14 children)

I've seen plenty of Israeli interviews where "leftist" is a perjorative. No one else says it.

    It's a dead give away.

Any examples of Western shows that use the term "leftist"?

If so, then I'd like to see it.

    [–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

honestly? foxnews rails against leftists all day every day. Are you homnestly saying that if someone says the word leftist they are an israeli shill. It could be possible but that is not proof of it.

    [–]Tom_Bombadil 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Find a clip of them saying this term. Let's see it.

Maybe you're doing a valuable service, and then again, maybe you're on a witch hunt. You've accused me of being a shill for simply disagreeing with you or asking clarification. I think there's some validity to the monsters you see as you stare into the abyss, but sometimes I think confirmation bias makes everything look like a monster to you.

Also, a significant amount of Redditors live in a cozy echo chamber. Many of them are fine with censorship, and squashing dissenting opinions. Doesn't seem like a great idea to want to flood an open speech platform like this with the kind of people that get easily offended by a simplistic post such as OPs.

    [–]Tom_Bombadil 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

    Patience, son...

    [–]Zahn 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

I'm simply explaining my position and thoughts. Show the sophistry if you believe that.

I ask you for civil dialogue and for you to substantiate your points with proof. And you respond with belligerence and ad hominem attacks. Who is acting like a shill?

The entirety of your previous comment is sophistry. It is not dialogue, and it contains no facts, or concise opinions.

It is full of assumptions and questions, that are intended to misrepresent both facts and your intentions.

It's a useful weapon against weak minded people like your subbordinate /u/Penelope.

It's a tool of deceit for shills and propagandists.

You are living proof that OPs post that left leaning people are more mentally unstable is absolutely true. Pardon my Ad Hominem, but you're either a shill and-or schizophrenic.

You have little to no self awareness and are socially incompetent and awkward to put it nicely.

I guess it really strikes home for me, as our local news now uses drag queens in full drag, and crown as trusted experts on things such as morality. Probably a reporting error, since there's no stigma against having mental illness on the far left like there is on the right. I'd guess it's just because they're more open about it, whereas people on the right are the opposite about it.

I don't think you can jump to the conclusion that "leftists" have more mental illness overall based on self-reporting data... Especially when the category being observed affects the likelihood of response.

      [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Probably a reporting error, since there's no stigma against having mental illness on the far left like there is on the right.

Running the risk of being pedantic, that wouldn't be a reporting error, that would be overreaching conclusions.

I'd guess it's just because they're more open about it, whereas people on the right are the opposite about it.

Could be an explanation, however I don't see it supported by any data so it can't be stated with any certainty.

I don't think you can jump to the conclusion that "leftists" have more mental illness overall based on self-reporting data...

This is actually a very good observation, self-reporting can be tricky, I remember some years ago an analysis of the subject, and there was a study that indicated that men reported having on average 3 times more sex then women, which math doesn't add up.

I also recall reading something on how most evaluated their driving skills, there was a tendency of people reporting they were above average or higher. So, the average was above average. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In this case the premise was: "The more left wing people are the more likely they are to have been diagnosed with mental illness." , a possible explanation (like Tim Pool stated at 4:20 ) is that left leaning people could be more likely to seek diagnostic/help. You can't get diagnosed with something if you don't go to the doctor. This kinda reminds me of the survivor bias post I did a while back.

Yes exactly, I think there is less stigma about getting mental help on the left, and that leads to a higher number of diagnoses. But that doesn't mean the actual occurrence rate in the population is different between the two groups.

Yep, The amount of relativity involved here is too damn high!

Too much of far anything will involve some degree of insanity, including the far-right, and along the same notion; mutations such as these can also serve functional purposes in the short to long term with varying degrees of uncertainty.

The conclusions here are simply hive-mind.
