The Ministry of Truth consults the Newspeak Dictionary. "Outdated definitions" go into the memory-hole.

wew lads. I eagerly anticipate my leftoid coworker parroting this at me when the not-a-recession-by-this-definition is announced.

What's the over/under for how long it takes Google to redefine the word?

I say before the weekend.

"While some maintain..."

Bullshit, Joe. That's exactly what a recession is.

Imagine the howling about recession if Trump was POTUS.

Whenever you see people in the mainstream advocate for anything "holistic" they are using a bait and switch. They do not care for the holistic when it finds the truth or is the best way to view something. They lean in to holistic in cases like this where they're trying to hide something. If they truly looked holistically at this, for even a minute, we wouldn't be in the situation we're in. They tend to look at it micro-economically, or macro-economically and use whichever one suits them, but never combine the two views to create a synergistic, or holistic look at the economy. Thomas Sowell calls bullshit on this one.

And we call those people "economists."
