I've seen plenty news article pages get disappeared. Then disappeared from Archive.org. I've seen Wikipedia history get removed to form a political stance, and all history before that also removed from Archive.org.
Searching for news articles is useless if you can search for one published within a certain date range. Think about that, because Google removed that feature quite awhile back. Step one to massively rewriting history, is making reading history excessively difficult so it doesn't get noticed.
