People in America think democrats are left wing, but the only thing they're left wing in is social issues. Most of them are pseudo progressives, but they're much more progressive than fascist Italy or Marxist Leninist USSR was. A lot of democrats subscribe to an ideology called neoliberalism, which is right wing/capitalist economically. They're also generally slightly authoritarian to slightly libertarian right as well. Of course, there's left wing people in the USA, like Bernie sanders whose ideology is slightly authleft to slightly libleft, but I think he's controlled opposition, just like Donald trump is controlled opposition.
