At the time of Galileo's conflict with the Church, the majority of educated people subscribed to the Aristotelian geocentric view that the Earth is the center of the Universe and the orbit of all heavenly bodies, or Tycho Brahe's new system blending geocentrism with heliocentrism.
Imho this is part of what happens with education. There are theories, people learn some about the theories and it sounds right but they're also just people trying to figure things out like anyone else. And the world of ideas can be small because everyone's talking to each other all the time. It's a scene, like anything else.

This is just a theory of my own I suppose, but I did not know that the heliocentrism controversy with Galileo had scientific objections to the heliocentric model as well, and it's interesting that it's stated that most educated people believed in this theory that, well, they had been taught, because they were educated. So I thought I may as well share this post.
