The neologism, "incel" is a portmanteau (compound word) of involuntary and celibate (in + cel) -- i.e., "involuntary celibacy". The term relates to [predominantly] males who feel they are "owed" phystical affection from [predominately] females; and when they do not receive this affection, they see themselves as being rendered "involuntarily celibate" (or "incels"). The assigned definition of the term aside, the real indictment on the sheer lack of grasp of the English language by "Generation Phone", is the derivation of the term.
- CELIBACY means "abstaining from MARRIAGE" (not sex); the term coming from the Latin cælebatus, which means "unmarried" -- e.g., "The priest took a vow of celibacy"
- CHASTITY means abstaining from SEX; the term coming from the Latin castus, which means "pure", "separate", "cut off" -- e.g., "She maintained her chastity until marriage" (see also: chastity belts)
- BOTH of those states are wholly VOLUNTARY -- the priest is not forced to eschew marriage, any more than a girl is forced to maintain her virginity (religious and cultural factors notwithstanding).
So, the term "incel" is not only non-sensical from a linguistic standpoint -- given that it refers to marriage and not the sexual intercourse it is used to define; it cannot, by definition, be involuntary. What's scary is that this malformed word is now a mainstream accepted "word" (kind of like how dictionaries change their definitions of "vaccine", to include the experimental mRNA transfection agents), and no one seems to be the wiser, as to how nonsensical what they are saying actually is.
If there is to be a term for said, self-styled demographic (if it even exists), it should be something like "sexprived" -- i.e., deprived of sex (sex + -prived).
