People can say things that upset and offend me. And no one can do anything about it. It seems to me that the only option for the owners is for them to force mods to impose rules that restrict dangerous speech. If we do that we can truly have enlightened and intelligent conversation. If we take positive preemptive action to curb negative speech we can spread safe and sanctioned ideas freely without fear of harassment and threats.

Saidit's founder had to admit a couple years ago that he'd witnessed the initial good intentions to have a free speech website, that was to be moderated for the removal of content low on the Pyramid of Debate, become a far right disinformation shithole where the most active users are the dumbest and meanest, and sometimes schizophrenics. I think users remain because they get to know one another and are curious about the reactions. But they're also quite often as dumb as they are mean. I've seen that consistently for over 2 years. Those who are good at debates come and go, but you'll see one on occasion.

I believe being offended is inversely correlated to the mental capacity of the individual.

It is the lack of realization that the particular meaning of a word, the perceived intention of the author, and the consequent reaction, occurs inside of the mind of the interpreter. Once it becomes clear that this is exclusively under one's own control, it becomes obvious there is no reason to put yourself through unpleasant feelings.

If these reactions feel outside of one's own control, it follows the mental capacity is not there yet. However I believe most people can learn this. It's all in the mind.
