EVERYONE is capable of developing emotional connections with ANYONE, regardless of the sex, unless you're a psycopath or have some issues to address (for example, internalized homophobia like you suggested, to address).

You know, that kind of makes me wonder... Research findings have suggested the following:

  • That there is a subset of people who call themselves "bisexuals" but are actually highly autogynephilic and have a heterosexual attraction pattern

  • That a common response to sexual trauma (especially childhood sexual abuse) is hypersexuality-- without emotional connection to the targets of desire.

I kind of wonder if some of the people who claim to be "sexual but aromantic" are battling with either a) paraphilias, such as AGP, or b) trauma. That may sound obvious but it would mean that the popularity of identifying as "ace spectrum" among transgender people is actually another hint about AGP.

edit: Also add that transgender people have higher rates of childhood trauma and you get a pipeline of: childhood sexual trauma -> lack of emotional connection, repulsion from sex, and hatred of body, -> identifies as transgender and "ace spectrum".

Just theorizing, though, lol.

Ahah, thanks for your insightful comment :p Once again, I definitely agree with you. It's not normal that someone isn't able to develop emotional connections. Something IS up necessarily. Like I already said in another comment, it seems like instead of people trying to address their issues they come up with 100000000 different labels and they deserve to be uwu respected and are so valid uwu. It's the same with transgenderism really - instead of preaching self love and therapy for traumatized individuals, they're being told to mutilate their bodies and start presenting as the opposite sex instead of desconstructing things. So sad.
