Novel idea. If someone is mad about JKR’s opinions/existence/whatever, they can just not watch the series and/or cancel their HBO subscription. No one is putting a gun to anyone’s head and demanding they watch it or continue to pay for HBO. Mind your business and let other people mind theirs.

These people can't handle the fact that many not only disagree with them, but have the absolute gall to criticize them.

They won't rest until everyone is subjugated or ostracized.

It’s just such an utterly stupid and childish mindset. I truly don’t get how more people don’t see it. Like, I think NBA YoungBoy is a reprehensible person and a shitty rapper. So, I don’t listen to him. If I went around demanding no one listen to him or claiming that everyone who was a fan was a bad person, I’d rightfully be mocked. People are pulling the same stunt with JKR and folks are just pretending that’s fine.

It's the natural progression of the recent focus on de-fanging the entire world instead of teaching people resilience.

All offensive things must be removed so nobody ever has to feel any form of discomfort - it was only a matter of time before this ludicrous ideology started trying to erase people too.

Childproof the universe! With "child" defined as anyone under the age of 200!

All these butthurt people. Don't fucking watch it then!!! I now buy as much HP merch as possible. I hope one of my friends tries to post some nonsense about Rowling. Yes I will lose friends over this. Hating on women and sending death and rape threats is not ok! Belittling one of the greatest authors of our generation is bullshit.

I feel like we're all losing friends over this, and it's crazy. The internet is wonderful in many ways (and also awful), but I honestly wish so many of us could find a way to meet in RL and re-form the bonds that we're missing.

I am in continual mourning because my best friends of 15 years dumped me over this insanity a few short months ago. So my heart goes out to all of you who have or will in the future experience the same.

Sorry you lost friends over this stuff. I wish we could support each other in real life but we do have here at least! We should start a support sub where we talk about how much we love Rowling and HP and other stuff we aren't supposed to say! I feel like I can't speak openly with anyone anymore without getting banned or called horrible names. It has made me pretty angry so now I do say pretty messed up stuff in response. Back someone into a corner then get suprised they lash out, right?

I love that idea. I know s/LGB was in the works for a while but I think the mods on this sub have a lot to do already. s/LGBsupport?

Yeah, I feel that too. I think we have to be a little careful about not expressing anything that seems violent-- partly because anti-violence is the longterm way to go for change, but partly also because the TQ+ could try to brigade here and take stuff out of context. But at the same time, it's super important to have an outlet for our anger, too.

For sure, I try to stay mindful but even facts and pretty tame things get the ban and are used for their agenda. I come here to vent, you all are great.

I'm so sorry to hear that, and thank you, I appreciate it. I know many of my acquaintances and friends would probably drop me in a moment's notice if they even knew I posted on this sub, and it makes me struggle to trust people's judgment when some are so blatantly dismissive and hurtful (social shunning of people with opinions deemed even slightly "problematic," spreading gossip/rumors/insults about such people) towards anyone who even questions transgender ideology.

Hope you're able to find social support in other people in your life!

Hey, have you tried that new book of hers (the Ickabog)? I heard it's supposed to be great and have been considering ordering it but haven't yet.

Yeah we should all buy and share as much Rowling stuff as possible. I thought of filling my local little free libraries with her work (and other work by women or lgb writers).

I've been on a Laura Ingalls Wilder kick lately. They are trying to cancel her too. These women contribute so much to literature, have interesting and inspiring lives and still you throw them under the bus!?

Get bent Adrian.

Pretty sure the HP franchise is Joanne's and not yours.

Go write some shitty HP fan fiction or try and push a mediocre queer writer instead.

Completely severing a work from its original creator? Revolutionary... /s

I posted something yesterday from NBC on the same topic. Different author. The case is as before, the author does not appear to be making much of a career from their "journalism" endeavor.

Didn't HBO already say the rumors about the TV show aren't true?

Lol Harry Potter is her input and always will be as she created the whole thing. They want to cancel JKR because she is ‘killing’ trans people but still enjoy her work. Bunch of hypocrites.

Pretty sure that's how copyright works. Like, I couldn't decide to make a New Mickey Mouse Series without Disney's input because I'm not a fan of their politics, lol.
