When you try to change the meaning of words, don't be surprised when people find new words.

Nail hit on the head with this. Which is why SuperStraight & SuperGay took off.

It's not a dogwhistle homie, it's a bullhorn. Same-sex means same-sex and we're using it to clarify that our sexual orientation excludes you. There's no secret hidden message here.

Yes, exactly!!! The phrase means exactly what it explicitly suggests. Same-sex attraction. It exists, it's a real phenomenon, and there are people who that describes. Suggesting that the phrase has a secret other meaning that overrides its literal meaning is erasure (that word is overused but it really does apply here) of LGB people.

"Same-sex attraction" is used to create distance between the person and their feelings, disarming the very successful LGBTQ strategy of focusing on a) love instead of sex, and b) an immutable characteristic of identity rather than a given act.

Wait, this person realises same-sex attraction means sex as in sexual characteristics, not sex as in sexual intercourse, right? Also gender identity isn't immutable, unlike sex.

I don't think it's possible for them to stop thinking about fucking something.

Yes, yes.

In order to describe material reality some level of detachment from the individual is always needed. That's how science and the production of any knowledge, including philosophy, works.

a) love instead of sex

lmao!

I challenge you to find one community as sex-charged as the TRA one. It just can't be done.

I think it would make sexual orientation and figuring themselves out alot less complicated if we used straight-forward language like same-sex attraction and opposite-sex attraction when describing sexuality to youth. Then they could focus on listening to their bodies and who they desire without all the baggage attached to "labels" like homosexuality, heterosexual, lesbian, gay, bi, and straight. It really is as simple as who you love/desire once we get rid of all the bullshit society heaps onto sexuality.

Furries. The two groups tend to overlap.

My official statement on the matter: Piss off you revisionist fuck.

Why is it suddenly a problem to say it? People talk about same-sex marriage all the time, even the LGBTQ+ organizations still often call it same-sex marriage.

Oh, right, it's because these homophobic assholes want to eliminate any way that we can meaningfully talk about our sexual orientations. They rendered gay and lesbian to be meaningless and they want us to stop using same-sex attracted and homosexual.

Oh brother . . . I guess whoever this is counts on us older gays not having a memory.

Back in the 1990s, when we were doing lots of pioneering work in the history of same-sex attraction, that was what we called it: "same-sex attraction." The reason we used that term instead of 'gay' or 'homosexual' was to try to be careful about not loading our language with a lot of 20th C. meanings associated with those words.

'Same-sex attracted' was considered the most neutral term for discussing the history of this mode of desire so that we could discuss same-sex desire within the logic of the culture in which it was experienced or acted on.

Hell, it was Foucault himself who prompted us to historicize discussions of sex.

Whenever they don't like something and can't explain why, they call it a "dog whistle" 🙄 I've even been told by AGPs that defining lesbian as "same sex attracted female" is a feminist dog whistle. Silly kids.

[–]Fusrodamus 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Or even if they can explain why, but they don't want to say the quiet part loud.

"Transphobic dog whistle" just means "you haven't actually said anything transphobic, but I'm going to pretend that you did so I can silence you."

Yep, that does seem to be their #1 method of trying to shut people up.

I love this community. I read these distressing headlines and TRA propaganda and worry that I'm going to be a lone voice arguing to reclaim reason.

All these brilliant replies allow me to relax knowing that there is some powerful and intelligent push back against this TRA cult.

Is it even possible to be attracted to a "gender identity"?

[–]hufflepuff-poet 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think that's called bisexual with a preference for masculinity or femininity? Seems like the best way to describe people who say they are attracted to gender identity while still being grounded in reality.

You know it's kinda funny how this post pretty much is just copy and paste of tons of other radical posts online. Accuse your opponent of being against the group they belong to and then associate them with some other past perceived evil to distance themselves even further from said group. The idea of dog whistling while probably can be used correctly in some instances it rarely is online. It's just trying to take some normie and associate them with some insane radical group so they can defame them.

Yes everyone on here actually hates people in the supposed LGBT community but regardless a man or woman is unable to change their anatomy. You wanted to argue "gender" is something inherently arbitrary and sure it is but sex is easily observed. You can try to deconstruct every sort of thing in human society to fit your desires but people can look at chromosomes and see x and y. Arguing we can change sex today is no different than Elagabalus in the third century seeking a doctor who could give him a vagina. It turns out humanity can't control their reality as much as some people like to think. We are still at the whims of nature.

If the trans community is so concerned with people going against them they need to stop being unreasonable about what reality actually is and why people are worried about bad faith actors. Otherwise they are just going to endear ire and I got news for them if you are a small minority that is the last thing you should do because eventually the majority is going to have enough of it and just repress you. Continue to gaslight people and you will not only lose mainstream's society's support but the LGB's support too.

Bisexual women get taught to refer to ourselves as "same sex attracted" which has always bothered me, for similar reasons to what this person brought up. Christian groups encourage its use as a term to prevent possibly gay kids with identifying with gay culture (not as much a problem now as when I was growing up.)
