That's just confusing and honestly why is this even necessary? If you wanted your Sim to be gay then you made them gay by making them flirt with Sims of same sex. If you wanted them to be asexual then you just made them never flirt with anyone. You can also make your Sim only interest in romance but not in sex and vice verse in the same way. That's just virtue signaling.

Not too familiar with the Sims but aren't these settings supposed to control/restrict their automatic behaviors in the same way?

Well.. At least they are still listing the two existing sexes.

Weirdly contradicts with their last alphabet update where they added Nonbinary Sims.

lol I also thought about that, but then again, maybe it's EA subtly implying that giving yourself custom pronouns doesn't change your physical sex.

Ohh I didn't know.

It was explained that they are still coded as male or female. A “they/them” does not exist mechanically in the the game since it only changes text in the English version. Fortunately for us it means sexual orientation remains based on sex in the majority of cases.

The split attraction model is so weird to me. Like, I understand the idea that you can have sex with someone without having romantic feelings for them, but are there people out there that are like, "I'm romantically attracted to women but I am only sexually attracted to men" or whatever? Like, I married my husband because I'm in love with him but his penis repulses me and I only want to have sex with someone with a vagina, but I could never actually feel anything besides horniness for a woman?

I just really can't wrap my brain around the idea of that being a thing.

As a Sims player, I actually don't MIND the idea of being able to make a Sim be exclusively gay, so that their AI doesn't start flirting with someone of the opposite sex, but the split attraction thing is just too confusing.

Exactly. I've wanted a sexuality option in Create-A-Sim since The Sims 3 but this is ridiculous. Also gives validity to the stupid ass bi-lesbian garbage.

"I'm romantically attracted to women but I am only sexually attracted to men" or whatever?

I tend to assume this just means, "I really like being friends with women but I'm actually attracted to men." Or, "I am in denial about the sexual nature of my attraction to women."

If it's split attraction, then does the "exploring romantically" option effect both the others?

I thought all sims were bi.

It could be fun to create a Sim who’s meant to be prudish, a member of the clergy or a made up religion/cult, or a frat boy (aka an aromantic heterosexual 🙄). The pronouns update is also silly, but I might use it to create creatures referred to as “it” or maybe royal titles. I have no desire to use it for its supposedly intended purpose even though it could be interesting to mess around with.

I don't get what the problem is.

not everyone believes in split attraction

I don't get how this promotes split attraction. You're controlling character behavior in a video game.

[–]xanditAGAB (Assigned Gay at Birth) 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

they are two settings, not just one. One for who the character will interact with sexually, and one only romantically, I guess. I haven't played sims in a while, but you can let them run on auto so they will flirt on their own.

[–]PatsyStoneMaverique 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Idk, I haven't played it in forever either. My assumption is that this is connected to the algorithm controlling AI behavior and thinking it promotes a certain ideology is a serious stretch.
