Weebs gonna weeb. I made the mistake of going to an anime club in college once thinking they'd have some recommendations for obscure interesting stuff that wasn't whatever mass market Moe crap was all over the internet. Nope, anime club might as well have been called "social incompetence club" the president was some white chick who had spent hundreds of dollars to import a Japanese elementary school students backpack that she wore literally everywhere and she spoke in the most annoyingly fake high pitched accent imaginable. It was hilarious. She was like a parody of a real person.

I stuck around on the fringes for awhile with the other couple of sane people just for the entertainment. Turns out watching a bunch of social misfits having stupid drama with each other is a hell of a lot more entertaining than this seasons new spin on "My highschool sweetheart is a demon octopus" or whatever stupid crap they make.

And they definitely can't socialize IRL even with other weebs it's pretty damn funny. All that Waifu shit leads to stupid posers starting fights with other weebs over their Waifu cheating on them or some shit. Can't make that shit up.

Yup. Seen literally thousands of anime, never felt absolutely any connection to these people. Even online I had to search deep to find normal people enjoying it normally.

Yeah it seems like an all encompassing hobby to most. I've met a couple of well adjusted anime buffs that actually had a life beyond watching cartoons but that's unusual.

Like weebs seem to think that anime is some obscure thing nobody knows about, it's been on TV in the west for decades, people know about it. It's not like the 80's when you had to find pirated VHS tapes to watch shit.

I guess you know, it's my fault for expecting much from a club oriented around consuming media. You see similar stupidity surrounding marvel or whatever. Watching TV or movies isn't really a "hobby" so much as it's time wasting so it's going to dreg up all the people who don't have anything else going on for them. Normal people are probably to busy having real hobbies to bother attending a club oriented around media consumption.

Yeesh those people at your college anime club sound cringey as hell. Pretty much a human trainwreck. People like that (combined with the fact that the anime market is flooded with moeshit and incel-bait anime aimed at creepy adults) are the reason why i mostly keep my liking of anime to myself in real life.
