Probably similar to why McDonald's commercials aren't just obese parents angrily yelling at their kids in the car.

I see the casting calls for the McDonald's ads in the UK and they almost always specify fit people.

That's literally everything though. Imagine if the next Spiderman movie contained 50% obese, 70% overweight actors just like the US population. Why aren't obese people equally represented in the entertainment industry?

Such a hilarious point. But why does it still hurt me though?

Alcohol advertisements should be banned, same for marijuana and tobacco.

Are you drunk?
[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun - 3 years ago (13 children)
Again.
Wish I could get drunk.

Why can't you get drunk?
[–]JasonCarswell 4 insightful - 4 fun4 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 4 fun - 3 years ago (10 children)
I play a superhero on SaidIt but I'm just a normal human - so it's not a super power.
I can't afford to get drunk. I scrape by monthly, worse now with the 2020 shrinkflation. That's why I must leave SaidIt for a while soon to try earn some extra.

All you need is sugar, yeast, water, and time for booze. Didn't we talk about wine and beer making a while back? You can use literal scraps for flavoring like they do with pineapple in tepache. Cheap fruits or juices on sale are perfect for it.
You don't even need to buy yeast either. Although using something coated in wild yeast (grapes, apple skins, pineapple skin, ginger root is a big one) helps rather than just hoping it catches something good from the air, although that works too ala Amish friendship bread style.
edit: although I wouldn't ferment orange juice, that doesn't turn out good.

Okay, you've convinced me. I still haven't finished setting up my garden.
I guess I should buy big vessels for it too. You don't happen to have some trustworthy YouTube recommendations on hand?

And stovetop stills are available online for very reasonable prices too. You can get two or three people to go in on one still. I think someone on this thread told me about the stills using a different persona. Thanks. Oh, and it is legal to make booze at home as long as you don't sell it but laws don't mean much nowadays.

Not gon'o lie, I ain't read most of the popular books. I read the Bible when I was little, but that's just about it.

I get the references but I don't get how it's related.

Thanks for explaining.
I think it goes even deeper. They are selling a product that A) is fun, B) makes you stupid, C) lowers your inhibitions, and D) can be abused - among other things. You simply can't advertise B, C, or D to the masses. Perhaps to niche groups with a sense of humour and adventure, but most people aren't seeking adventure in their drinking nor share any common humour - especially in this era.
The best they can to is approximate the feeling of fun or whatever proxy vibe or attitude the brand can muster worth promoting for greater sales. Sadly this is much of what advertising is now - feelings, often misleading or deceptive. Not about information, quality, etc. As you point out, we are in a world of hurt, and striving for these good feelings are all many have left.

It works in Canada.
Also Big Pharma adds like "Ask your doctor" are banned in Canada - but we also get US TV.

The pharma ads are the best - while it shows the character you’re supposed to relate to in pain and suffering or what they’re missing out on (parts of life), they tell you all the great things meds can do!!
Then when the fun starts happening in the pharma ad, something weird starts happening and they start speaking really, really fast telling you all the bad things the meds could do to you!

I did so much advertising breakfast sugar to children. Fortunately some of the laws protect kids now. Meanwhile, now they're forced to wear masks.

Agreed. Lockdown is ludicrous on most levels when you look at it. I just had a fight with my mom who claims all her channels are right and to be afraid. I said she's fed baby food and won't ever know the truth until she gets active and does her own research. Fuck the vaccines, I'll take her out myself if they'd let me.
The sugar bomb cereal wasn't my big issue. And I think they had dealt with or were dealing with the "nag" thing. My big problems back then was that ALL the cereal commercials were about stealing it because it was so good. That's not justifiable. Plus half of them were teaching bad grammar. I could list them if you want. Ironically, after doing so many, realizing all this, and finally putting my foot down - no more cereal commercials came into the studios I was at. So I never got to virtue signal and refuse to animate on them.
Well, I didn't get to stand my ground on cereal, and I did stay around for a few more years. It was a career. I liked the 6 figures. I loved the craft. I was falling out of love with the content. I did sponges, contact lenses, cell phones, razors, and other ephemeral shit people don't need - until I finally quit around 2004-2005 and went indie directing my own projects and spinning my wheels. I needed/still need a good partner or few.

Doesn't work. Theyre banned in my country. So they advertise something else. They pretend they're selling anything from music CDs to glasses (as in a glass of water).

That's just a loophole, probably put in there intentionally to help big alcohol.
[–]johnnybravo 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun - 3 years ago (6 children)
Of course. And alcohol is so heavily taxed in India they would bend over backwards to the industry.
[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun - 3 years ago (5 children)
India has a much smaller alcohol problem than the US, at least according to what I saw.
You do bring up a good point about taxation, though, because the government makes bank from alcohol sales. That's a reason I support Prohibition, because taxation alone won't be enough.

How about brewing your own?.
[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun - 3 years ago (2 children)
Ideally it would be banned, but initially I'd allow it. And as long as you ain't selling it, you wouldn't be criminally charged anyways.

A still for every home! Decentralize all things! Neighbors could trade and barter with their custom crafts that stand above, and if they want to go bigger get the permits focused on proper non-corrupt health requirements (should be self evident) - like for any small restaurant.

Small alcohol is better than big alcohol, that's for sure.

I don't drink but definitely support brewing one's own. Honestly, one can do whatever one wants on land that one owns and with the things one acquired legally. The govt has no say in it, unless I plan to sell. But if it doesn't leave my property then it's nobody else's business, unless cooking meth or something because that substance is illegal but in case of alcohol, "it's legal as long as you pay tax to us"
