America has cherished, idolized, and looked up to Native Americans for their strength, resolve, and honor, despite our bloodied histories. The candle of life eventually burns out for all. You have to wonder if efforts like these, against cultural appropriations, do little more than erase one's culture from history. In 100 more years, will anyone even remember the legacy of brave and fierce Indian warriors, armed with tomahawks and simple bows, whom struck fear in the hearts of battalions of technologically advanced armies armed with firearms, whom gave them their misnomer of a name?

I agree. This is clearly honoring them to style your team after them. I understand why Cleveland 'Indians' may be offensive, as this is based on Columbus thinking he had landed in India, and these people are not 'Indians'. I personally think the best compromise here is teams like the Florida State Seminoles, they are named after a specific tribe from that area. This is honoring their history and legacy. I don't see why these teams can't keep a native themed name if they make an effort to honor these peoples in a less ignorant way that is based on keeping their history alive rather than sterotypes
