The Babysitter’s Club on Netflix uses the analogy of making a right handed person switch to being left handed for trans people. (This is to explain this concept to kids.) However, I’m confused because isn’t this the exact opposite of what trans people are doing? Being trans is more like being born right-handed and desperately wanting to be left-handed. You can demand everyone pretend you’re left-handed, but it doesn’t change that you can’t accurately throw a ball and can barely write your name with your left hand.

Yet more proof that the analogy works better for LGB (you know, cause we invented the analogy). Conversion therapy is like those weird christians that thought being left handed was "of the devil" or some shit and tried to force their kid to use their right hand. They're even stealing our analogies now...

This is the article Kai Shippley's mother wrote (the actor that plays Bailey.)

https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/parenting/a43702/transgender-child-kimberly-shappley/

I've said it before, I was a pretty dumb kid, but I probably didn't even know I was a girl when I was 4. I thought everyone had the same stuff down there and whether you were a boy or a girl depended on how long your hair was. It really creeps me out that this kid was this obsessed with gender at such a young age.

Oof, I completely forgot about that, but ya, when I was little, I thought the most superficial things determined/were for boys and girls, like long hair... and it's odd that the definitions of trans seem to be entirely superficial (read: the same as very young children) and they behave like children when you tell them "no"

Omg, I'm reading through the article rn cause I had a ton of articles suggested today. She flat out says she was uncomfortable with her kid being gay. It's right there. She's trying to seem so progressive, but in the end, she'd rather have a daughter than a gay son... Edit: also, why tf was her response to everything so aggressive, like spanking your kid, cutting their hair extremely short, and yelling at them because of a psychological issue isn't going to fix it AT ALL. Like, it's a fairly simple "boys can like dolls, that's ok, and it doesn't make them less of a man" would have been sooo much better.

Exactly! From more Googling, I found that she has 7 children total, though in this article it starts with "I had 4 boys until..." the 3 other children by rule of deduction would be girls, they are not even mentioned in any of the articles I saw, a sister is briefly mentioned in one article in one sentence. It's super creepy. There is something really strange going on here and we are not getting the whole story.

I really wonder if this whole mess didn't start off with "Kai" trying to play with his sisters' stuff, and the mom freaking the fuck out and going "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO only girls are allowed to do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RRRREEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!" and it all just snowballing from there. From watching a video of him he seems really smart and articulate (and unfortunately very precocious and adultified.) I wonder if he didn't just feel like "If only girls are capable of liking this stuff, and I like this stuff, that means I'm really a girl? And if I'm a girl, and I can make mommy see this too, then I can finally do whatever I want?" He was never given the option of just being a boy who likes "girl stuff."

Also, where the hell is the father of all these kids? Like you can't have seven kids on your own... Every scenario I run through my head raises more questions about the mother. If she ignored the father's say in the transition, that's fucked up. If the father was ok with it, that's fucked up, if the father was not mentioned in the article, that's fucked up, if she divorced the guy/he divorced her after having seven kids, that's a red flag, and if she's had seven kids by more than one father, something tells me she probably already had problems with her church... I just feel bad for the kid, it seems like he's a plaything for his mother... Edit: also just completely ignoring her daughters seems like par for the course for her, which is fucked up

It’s completely unreasonable, however, to coerce medical professionals into pretending biological sex does not exist and impact patient health.

It’s completely unreasonable for any one of us to pretend biological sex doesn’t exist.

I refuse to comply with the insanity.

Another great article that I have posted before from the federalist:

Who are the rich white men institutionalizing transgender ideology?

https://thefederalist.com/2018/02/20/rich-white-men-institutionalizing-transgender-ideology/

Yes, I know that it that it is a right-leaning website. Unfortunately, the left-leaning ones have downed the koolaid.

Saw that one! I had never heard of this website til a week or so ago when I found yet another different great trans-related article.

Are we not supposed to post this website or something? I don't want to give legitimacy to a group that is harmful but the article I found was pretty good.

It's a generally right-wing/conservative/republican site, but it's mainly op-eds and they have a very pro-free speech policy it seems. So you get articles from gay conservatives and anti-gay conservatives on the same site, which probably is the reason the warning is up. I've seen some questionable articles on the site, but they cover a lot of under-covered issues and are willing to argue unpopular opinions, so I check it out regularly.

That fucking hospital scene. "I don't want a blue gown, go and find me a pink one", fucking hell. Makes the character look utterly insufferable at the best of times... but to air that during a pandemic when (at least in the UK) shortage of PPE for hospital staff has a major issue comes off as utterly crass.

[–]fuck_reddit[S] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

That's a really good point about PPE. It also just struck me as wild that blue "triggered" the character so much... Like all adult/adolescent/child hospital gowns in the US are a baby blue. The only thing I know of where they give color coded gowns is to newborns (and fun fact, I am a guy but I was put in pink when I was born because they were out of blue clothing, and guess what, only my [insane] grandmother gave a shit, the rest of my conservative family was understanding and its now a funny story) Like caring so much about clothing color as it relates to gender is soooo gender essentialist...

[–]supersmokio6420 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Yeah definitely. How fragile do you have to be in your perception of yourself as a girl that a fucking hospital gown bothers you? I can't see a real girl minding, even a very girly one.

[–]fuck_reddit[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Frankly, I think guys would have more of a problem with the blue hospital gowns, cause they "look like dresses." The irony...
