It sounds like she has always been this way by what her current and past employees say, however, I think with the corona virus and people spending more time on the internet people haven't got much to do. I'm sure many hollywood celebs are stuck up, unpleasant and difficult to work with, look at Mel Gibson, how he is still being offered roles is beyond me. Give it a few weeks, Ellen will be tossed aside for a new celeb cancellation.

watching her last special, she describes how after the ellen show was cancelled she hit rock bottom... I wonder if that didn't effect her drive to succeed at all costs.

Could be. She had to struggle to make it back after she came out(she opened the door for many gays and lesbians). She hit mega success with her talk show which lead to films roles and sponsors. That much fame for anyone tends to go to ones head. I don't believe she started her career as difficult or unpleasant or she would of been passed over (especially as a woman). I just think the fame went to her head like it does for many celebs for hit it big.

That was my first thought on this whole situation.

It seems manufactured. She pissed off the union and this is revenge on the scab. I'm not saying she's an angel but they haven't managed to name actual wrongdoing despite all the screaming. (Unless I missed something?)

I think being female and a lesbian definitely means society will be harder on her than male celebs. I don't know exactly what she did but if it was about being a hardass/mistreating employees I'm sure plenty of male entertainers did similar and it was brushed off or even lauded as strong leadership or whatever.

Male television/movie directors are known for being absolutely horrible to their stars and crews, sometimes outright abusive. Ellen is being torn apart because she's a woman.

You're not wrong, but also. We shouldn't put up with this from anybody. If she is abusive then she is abusive.

Absolutely right -- didn't mean to excuse her behavior at all. The entertainment industry is rife with abuses of power and position, it needs a major rehaul

I am wondering do people who are going into Film/TV industry really think it's the dream world where everybody is nice, supportive and kind to each other?

I think she’s genuinely just a dick. But I do get the impression that a lot of people on Twitter especially were eager to tear her down because she’s a rich white “cis” lesbian.

I pay little attention to her, but it would not surprise me if she was difficult, because some of her humor is just deadpan sarcasm. Switch contexts and that's not fun to receive. Nobody should expect someone who does that as part of their performance to never do it offstage. Doesn't make it okay, but it sounds like she's doing what it says on the tin, mostly.
