The "trans-gays" and "trans-lesbians" in the comments think it's a personality trait. Of course they do, they're playing pretend.

Sometimes I think they walk around like "here I go driving as a trans gay in my trans gay car to pick up (insert slur) snacks for my dog, who is owned by a trans gay, fuck I'm so oppressed."

QUEER

The slur is queer.

I'll get my queer prize now, thanks.

You nailed it! That's exactly it: these idiots think being gay/lesbian is a personality trait because they'll never be able to really experience what being gay and lesbian is actually like.

It's exactly like non-black people who think being black is to like rap or something. The difference is that people don't accept race larpers (yet...) and they would be rightfully called out.

because they'll never be able to really experience what being gay and lesbian is actually like.

...or what it is to be of the opposite sex.

This is a real gem (from a “transbian” with multiple flairs to that effect, of course):

“I usually feel bad about myself seeing things like this because being queer is a big part of my personality.”

Why yes, “Tiffany,” you should feel bad about appropriating a gay slur as a straight man and trying to coerce lesbians to sleep with you. That would be called “self-awareness,” but given that you posted this, I doubt you have any. You’re just fishing for “validation” again.

Edit: word

Sure... but there are several “bi” saying the same.

If they aren't LARPers they must be really insecure

It disturbs me how many teens and young adults seem to be completely incapable of figuring out who they are without some multi-million dollar franchise pre-chewing it for them. For a subculture that never shuts up about representation and fair depictions, they have no actual media literacy skills.

[–][deleted] 11 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 0 fun12 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

You've hit the ol' nail on the head.

They also think being straight is a character trait, and being black/white is a character trait!?

https://www.reddit.com/r/lgbt/comments/j8u3k2/comment/g8ek9tr

End me. I'm actually amazed. No wonder they hate "terfs" and homosexuality. They think being gay is a condemnable character trait!

Truly, we have come full circle. Horseshoe theory in action.

[–]VioletRemiCat, homosexual one 19 insightful - 1 fun19 insightful - 0 fun20 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

They think being gay is a condemnable character trait!

Well, that is the point of their ideology and attacks on gays. Being gay is "a choice" in their ideology. If being gay is not a choice - then their ideology can't work at all, so they are forcing this idea that being gay is a choice. Same about gender-non-conforming people, they are breaking their ideology by existing, that is why gender/queer ideologists are attacking GNC people so much. Plus this "being lesbian is a choice" seems like a good way for freaks and fetishists to attack lesbians and to have support of law or people, and lesbians for being lesbians are now "bigoted" and may be against the law.

And we all know that personality can be changed!

[–]Feather 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

They think being black is a personality trait? That's so racist.

I don't think they know what "personality" and "identity" and "sense of self" mean. It's clear that many of them have untreated cluster B personality disorders.

[–]reluctant_commenter[S] 21 insightful - 1 fun21 insightful - 0 fun22 insightful - 1 fun -  (9 children)

Surprised by the disconnect between votes and comments-- the commenters seem to think that sexuality is a character trait, but the votes suggest more people on r/lgbt think otherwise. Any guesses why?

[–]VioletRemiCat, homosexual one 25 insightful - 1 fun25 insightful - 0 fun26 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

People who think otherwise afraid to comment, as they will be instantly banned.

Good reminder to post a removeddit link, also.

Well yeah, "being gay is not a personality" is something hysterical conservatives used to say. That is until people like the kids on /r/lgbt really did make it their whole life.

[–]reluctant_commenter[S] 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Gotcha, I think I saw like the tail end of the phrase being used in that context. Most of my experience with it is similar to this post-- people saying "Yes my sexuality is my personality." I have not really thought of it as a conservative talking point come to life.

You don't get banned for upvoting. You do for commenting.

[–]ShotTopic 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Probably a lot of people just upvote and move on without reading comments. The ones who want to disagree with a post have more reason to comment about it.

Censorship. The votes came from the silent majority.

I always wonder why people even bother to stay on subreddits they can't express themselves on without getting banned in the first place

When I was a teen and everyone started coming out as lgbtq+ and all they would talk about was their sexualities/genders, I assumed it was because they recently discovered themselves and were excited.

Half a decade later, with all of them coming out as some new trans flavor every single month, I gotta say I was very, very wrong.

Mildly related, but most people I knew thought Pete buttigieg wasn't really gay because of his politics. Maybe someone should let his husband know?

[–]Athelhilda2 16 insightful - 1 fun16 insightful - 0 fun17 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I really, really hate how being a part of certain demographics have become political stances. Being gay, Black, or whatever has nothing to do with politics.

[–]FrostyNugsI'm allergic to nuts 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Identity politics is a fucking tumor.

[–]Shadow_Lurker 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Considering the world we live in, being gay/lesbian has been political for a long time...

[–]Shadow_Lurker 15 insightful - 1 fun15 insightful - 0 fun16 insightful - 1 fun -  (9 children)

Most of them drop their gender special/snowflake sexualities once they are over 30. This is all a giant larp for attention.

It's hard to build a personality after all...

[–]blahblahgcer 11 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 0 fun12 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

Aw I have to wait til 30? Damn. I was thinking it was weird how all these 25 year olds were still doing it.

[–]Shadow_Lurker 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

Nope, just wait until they get out of college.

That should be enough, as we all hope...

I know a few people who've graduated and are in the work force who are like this. Some even are in PhD programs.

[–]FrostyNugsI'm allergic to nuts 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Holy fuck that's depressing

[–]blahblahgcer 9 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Multiple are in therapist programs. I think that makes it worse, somehow.

[–]FrostyNugsI'm allergic to nuts 9 insightful - 3 fun9 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

That's worse. A therapist shouldn't need therapy more than their clients do.

Or just wait until they have a boring heterosexual wedding

[–]Constantine 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

It’s because they see him as a traitor to the gay community. They did the same with Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot when she was elected (first lesbian in such a role). Because they don’t cater to the TQWTF’s every whim, and because they’re not self-avowed communists (not kidding), they’re seen as fake gays or something. I saw this every day when I was working in politics.

It just goes to show that they actually see being LGB as a personality trait that they can try on and off whenever they like. Much like womanhood. Same reason they say all TERF’s are “political lesbians” or something ridiculous like that.

[–]blahblahgcer 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

I've seen the "you have to be communist if you're gay" thing before but I didn't know it was widespread. I thought it was just the people I know. Damn.

[–]Constantine 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

My generation is basically a bunch of literal internet vessels walking around the real world. And they’re in the workforce now. It’s terrifying.

[–]RedEyedWarriorGay | Male | 🇮🇪 Irish 🇮🇪 | Antineoliberal | Cocks are Compulsory 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The people that are pushing this want to spread communism. An ideology that has killed tens of millions of people. If being a communist is a prerequisite to being gay, then I’m not gay, I’m just a man who wants to have sex and relationships with other men.

[–]Shadow_Lurker 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

"you have to be communist if you're gay

Do these idiots have ever read Marx or Engels in their fucking lives? They were both traditionalists who valued the concept of the nuclear family, even though they criticised how capitalist society used it for it's own perpetuation.

They are seriously confusing marxism with hipster culture lol

[–]our_team_is_winning 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

"you have to be communist if you're gay"

Unless you were in Castro's communist Cuba, where you'd go to prison for being gay.

[–]reluctant_commenter[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

They did the same with Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot when she was elected (first lesbian in such a role).

Oh god, don't even get me started. There was so much hatred towards her among people I knew in college, it was crazy. I get that people make mistakes, but they targeted her specifically and made nasty memes and insults, just for her. Like, seriously?? You have all this hatred for her, and don't have a moment to spare for the white straight politicians doing the exact same things or worse?

It just goes to show that they actually see being LGB as a personality trait that they can try on and off whenever they like. Much like womanhood.

Yeah. Breaks my heart, all these people being persecuted for being gay and you've got a bunch of peer-pressured kids and fetishizing adults treating it like some kind of fun game.

edit: a word

[–]Constantine 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah there were so many memes going on at that time saying she was the “traitorous lesbian” that some former Stonewall activist warned us all about. It was infuriating, especially since she’s a pretty effective progressive mayor from what I understand. She just doesn’t put up with bullshit.
