"Pangender"? Talk about a throwback. It used to be a trendy snowflake label a few years ago until it was deemed "problematic" and "culturally appropriative".

Funny. The idea that there are "culturally specific genders" should be a clue that these "genders" are not some innate identities, but just different expressions that are viewed in different ways across different cultures.

That's actually hilarious.

Christ... I clicked on the link.

I think you should just enjoy the content for the reasons you already like it, and just not watch her videos on gender stuff. I don't have a problem with "supporting" youtubers, or authors, filmmakers, whatever, that I disagree with politically. The exception for me is if they did something like physical violence, or violated someone's rights, like sexual assault.

I say don't worry too much about it. Is this girl the head of some TQ+ org? Is she some lawmaker stripping away LGB rights? If not, then "supporting" or not supporting (not watching) makes a negligible difference in the grand scheme.

useful lesbian

Your flair speaks true to your comment haha. ↑

On a more serious note...

OP, I agree with what /u/GoValidateYourself said, as long as the YouTuber isn't advocating for violence, sexual assault, etc then it should be fine...This YouTuber sounds like she merely has a difference in politics---with that being gender identity politics(ex. If you're a conservative who likes a liberal YouTuber or vice-versa, then these minor political differences shouldn't matter).

But I do understand where you're coming from OP. To be honest, if a YouTuber I liked kept speaking openly/ sneaking in content about gender identity politics, I would have second thoughts on subscribing to them. If they mention it briefly and moved on, then I'll shrug it off and move on(while still watching their content). Who knows? Maybe that particular YouTuber in the future will be like "What was I thinking? PANGENDER? LOL How silly!". There may be others who challenge this YouTuber's way of thinking too, we can only hope they change their mind!

edit: word

Thanks PeakingPeachEater! I like your username.

Yeah, she doesn't talk about it 24/7 or anything, it's just that it came so suddenly. Without any warning or signs of her being into TQ+/gender identity politics.

I do hope so. That she snaps out of it. Although, you should've seen the comments. Sheesh, tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if she said she was "pangender" just to gain more subs.

[–]BiHorror[S] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's just I still feel bad about it and all, even though she's not any of those. Makes me feel like a hypocrite, I guess you could say. If that make sense.

If you have an Android phone you could completely avoid "supporting" her while continuing to watch her content. NewPipe lets you view videos without actually adding to their view counter or their showing ads, therefore no monetary benefit for the channel you're watching. That's what I do in these situations.

But I don't think you need to feel bad for watching her content on actual YouTube unless she becomes a big activist for her lunacy. Some of these people just want to spice up their lives a little bit and mainly keep their "gender identity" to themselves.

Nice! I haven't heard of NewPipe before, I will have to check it out. I've been meaning to drop YouTube for a while now...I have an account but not under my real name/info lol.

There's also the website invidious{https://invidious.site/}, to where you can watch YouTube videos there while having your personal data private and not taken by Google/YouTube.

Apart from invidious there's bitchute{https://www.bitchute.com/}, but it's basically like another YouTube platform with freedom of speech if I remembered correctly and private in terms of your personal data similar to invidious inregards to that aspect.

No problem! Cybersecurity and researching is hobby of mine haha. I very much like to read and share my findings. :D

NewPipe? I'll be sure to look into that! Thanks to letting me know about that.

As for her, she's not super big or anything like that. Nor does she talk about it 24/7. She seems like a sweet chick, it's just that whole "pangender" shit came outta nowhere.

[–]chazzstrong 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

This might seem awful echo-chamber-y of me, but when someone starts spouting off regressive TQ+ bullshit like that, I drop them.
It's not that I close myself off to that shit, I still know it exists and read about it on sites like this one, but I just KNOW the type of people to push that aren't the type to think rationally or converse calmly. I just save myself the sudden drop of disappointment by cutting them free altogether.

It's like a cancer...rather than letting it sit around and spread, I cut it out so I live a healthier, longer life.

Yeah, I get ya. It just sucks when you definitely don't know who is or isn't into this shit. Or if they seemed normal at first then decide to throw a curveball.

you like their content keep enjoying it! you don't have to agree on everything. but if non-binary people are they/them what are pangender people? "hey you?" blob instead of she? not trying to make fun but if she doesn't care for pronouns how is someone supposed to address her in a conversation?

[–]BiHorror[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Thanks for answer! From what she said for herself, she's basically okay with being called she/"they"/he, and basically anything related to that.

but if she doesn't care for pronouns how is someone supposed to address her in a conversation?

I ain't got no clue. People usually have referred to her as she, but I'm guessing now that she's made that statement, people won't go berserk if someone new, for example, said he or "they" (as in NB) and the whole "you misgendered!!!!" Bs.

I'd be honest about who I am and stop trying to present something that's not real just to be in with the in-crowd.

Her journey through life is hers, you can only be you, and you have to decide if being true to yourself is more important than being liked by people who loath us because we are same sex attracted.

[–]BiHorror[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

True, she barely knows who I am tho (I don't make comments or anything. Just watch her videos and like them).

Someone somewhere is studying this overly labelling everything period and will have some interesting insights when it's over.

I feel for young people who aren't indoctrinated into this bullshit.

Same, especially when the pressure to join into it starts. I remember making a post in another sub about this thing called "austismgender" (yes that's apparently a "real" thing) and someone posted to me about how they knew some who were autistic would call themselves that just to get away from that bullshit.

If you still enjoy her content, I think it’s fine to keep watching over a difference in what is essentially political opinion. The bigger issue I tend to face is a massive loss of respect I often feel for people who go in this direction.

It instantly makes me not relate to them and think of them as airheads thoughtlessly buying into a trend without thinking of the consequences, so depending on what I watch them for, it often does ruin whatever joy I previously got from their content.

Yeah! Thats basically how I felt when she decided to post that. Like, I do enjoy her content and it's not like she's always talking or posting about it 24/7 but it does take out some of the joy as you said. :/
