Why do so many people who identify as transgender also identify as gay?

Because they are heterosexual, and when they are "changing their gender" they "becoming gay", because they were just man who likes women, now they are transwoman who likes women, so to play with their "change gender" they are saying "I am lesbian now".

If you mean transmen, they are in majority of cases are GNC women or lesbians, but society pressures them to "I like women, so I am a man" (actually happened to me, when my country had homophobic laws, gladly trans lobby was not active back then, but I was thinking that I may be a boy because I love wome) and transitioning because of that.

Other part of transmen are just gay fetishists, there aren't as much of them as similar ones from transwomen side, but they do exist.

Most desisters are gay, a majority of detransitioners are gay & many vocal homophobes are gay. In addition to this, being homosexual is a form of gender non-conformity.

Put 2 & 2 together & it's likely that the reason homosexuality is overrepresented in the transgender population, because a substantial number of them are just self-hating gay people.

Well, I'm sure you already know their actual motivations for identifying as gay in droves despite the low incidence of gay people in the general population:

  • They fetishize being gay/lesbian.

  • They are trying to to earn "woke street cred" and you get more "woke street cred" for being trans AND gay.

But you're asking for an official explanation that attempts to at all connect the phenomenon observed to reality. Hmm... the only one I've heard is the claim that: "Way more people are queer than you know! See, queer people are everywhere!"

And they almost never say "gay" people are everywhere... they say "queer". Gotta other-ize everyone. Other-ize yourself so much that it validates your self-appointed victimhood. I feel like the extent to which one glorifies being "other-ed" is DIRECTLY related to one's degree of self-victimization.

I think it's because one way or the other, they're "gay". Either they're biologically a gay couple or they can identify as a gay couple, so some portion of people are going to see them as gay regardless. Since more people are oriented as straight to start with, more trans people will probably identify themselves as gay, but the ones who don't will probably be considered gay by acquaintances...

They don't have an "official" explanation for it as far as I can tell, it's something they just prefer to ignore

Do you mean gay as in homosexual or gay as in straight but now identify as gay to prop up their gender identity?

It seems like the homosexual trans identifying people they are rejecting their own ability to conform to gender rules. The straight ones seem to have a sexual fetish in one way or another.

Becuase they go by their "gender identity." So if a transmen is into men, they're considered "gay." Vice versa for "lesbian" (straight) transwomen... Then let's not even get into the whole NB and anything related to it bullshit.

I'm sure that I saw an "official" (i.e., TRA-approved) "explanation" -- or sad excuse for one, more like-- somewhere, but now can't remember what it was!

Think it must've been some sorry-ass-ness along the lines of, "trans people are so SPESHUL that your BORING OLD RULES-- such as heterosexuality being the norm by a wide margin-- don't even APPLY! Our Gender MagicTM lets us TRANSCEND that normie shit! Checkmate, cis scum! Oh but also TWAW and we're totally the same as you BTW!"
