1 month isn’t enough

It's more than enough.

A week would have been preferable.

Neither Halloween nor Christmas get that amount of airtime and they are both infinitely more enjoyable holidays.

My guess would be they're timing this to coincide with the summer school break, which would make it more than two months.

Freetobeme is an official government account linked to the LGBTQ Secretary.

I find it significant that a national government is doing this.

  1. Who's making the decisions here?

  2. What's their goal? What are they trying to accomplish?

Kind of weird to announce this a few days into June and not at the beginning. Though I suppose they wanted the outrage towards the residential schools to die down before they claimed everyone's favourite season.

Do any people non-ironically use two-spirit?

If you're from one of the tribes where it's culturally meaningful, presumably.

What confuses me is that I thought it was a southwestern U.S. thing, so what tribes in Canada are they accommodating?

Pretty sure it started in Canada. The term is new, came about in the 90's in English and then was translated back into some Native languages. The term is somewhat problematic at times because in a way it homogenizes the different cultures and traditions within different tribes. And Canada atleast was pretty brutal in stamping out Native culture and heritage to the point where it is difficult to recover. Post-colonial theory (also started in Canada) has also made a mess of it all in a different way.

Looking at the replies, they seem to be doing more harm than anything. Which I guess is the spirit of modern pride, so they must be doing it right.
