"In summary, Sweden has changed direction because of a lack of evidence to support medical interventions for gender-dysphoric minors. A new emphasis has been placed on psychiatric care and psychosocial support. Hormonal interventions for minors will be highly restricted."

Hopefully the Swedish medical community stick to these guidelines and don't crumble under pressure from TRAs.

Wasn’t expecting this from Sweden, given their reputation for being woke. But then again, Sweden has so far not implemented a self determination law on gender identity, so it is promising. Let’s hope they will stick to their guns, and if so, let’s also hope that other countries will follow their example.

You may have gotten a skewed view of Sweden. Most of the TRA stuff was only supported by default, or "because it's the right thing to do". If you were to bring up specific points of how TRA activism actually manifests, you would get a lot more dissent.

there's a lot more dissent coming out now; if you go through the responses to the draft of the self-id bill there's a lot of big names (BRÅ, Polisen, Region Skåne) etc that have been incredibly critical as well as the usual women's orgs (kvinnolobbyn, kvinnofronten). Also some new grassroots orgs have started up and responded to it (Womens rights watch, LHB Förbundet), they don't show up on the website cause they're not requested remissinstanser but any person or org could answer. It's going to be really interesting to keep following this especially in the light of this new change from socialstyrelsen

Now they just have to work out how to protect the same kids from trans predators on social media coercing them into DIY transitioning.

It's relevant to point out the Swedish documentary posted here a couple of months ago, about how doctors treat transitioning young people: https://saidit.net/s/LGBDropTheT/comments/8mla/mission_investigate_trans_children_swedish_with/

That investigative journalism series (Uppdrag granskning) is quite highly regarded here in Sweden. I wonder if it had an impact on these changes.

I would highly recommend anyone watch that documentary, it's really good.

I wonder if it had an impact on these changes.

I wouldn't be surprised.

This is a really, really great change.

Sweden’s new guidelines emphasize that gender-dysphoric youth will continue to receive care. However, health care for gender dysphoria is no longer reduced to “hormones and surgeries.” The recommendations now call out a key role for psychiatric and psychosocial services.

I wish that psychotherapy as a legitimate form of treatment for gender dysphoria were normalized. A lot of people with gender dysphoria have unrealistic beliefs about what it means to be a man or a woman-- e.g., "Women are supposed to wear these clothes, and I don't want to wear those clothes, therefore I'm a woman." These sorts of cognitive distortions seem like the perfect candidates for cognitive behavioral therapy. Yet therapists risk their careers if they try to promote or encourage psychotherapy as an alternative to, or even in addition to!, puberty blockers and hormone therapy.

Sweden is realigning with the classic “Dutch Protocol” model, where only early childhood-onset gender dysphoria cases will be considered for hormones and surgeries.

I hope they put the emphasis on considered. Keeping in mind, 87% of early childhood-onset male gender dysphoria cases ended up desisting in the largest study yet on desistance rates.

edit: Just saw this part:

They assert that access to medical interventions should be based on the presence of gender dysphoria, rather than the presense of a transgender identity. /7

What a crazy idea!
